James Spencer, MD

Still giving Spencer Dermatolgy 5 stars because, until this point, they have been outstanding and I'm sure they will remain so. HOWEVER, called today to seek advice, as Dr Salyards is leaving and my upcomimg appointment was with her. When I asked what my options were, the casual answer was "pick another Doctor or a PA". "What is my other Doctor choice?" "We don't have one" "When will you have another one?" "Let me see....oh, sorry, we don't know". Now, I'm sure that the PAs are excellent but, when the rightfully renowned Dr Spencer is now almost 100% restricted to doing surgery, I really want my annual appointment to at least be overseen or reviewed by a Doctor. Canceled the appointment but will hope to return once a Dr Spencer-approved Doctor is added to the staff.

I have been going to Spencer Dermatology for a few years now. The treatment staff are all very good and seemed genuinely concerned about their patients. However, over time I have had consistent issues with woman behind the front desk who checks in the patients and speaks to you regarding your insurance. I find her to be passive aggressive and condescending. I went in for treatment today on some issues I had and this woman calls me up to the front desk to ask me if I "knew how my insurance worked" and then proceeded to tell me that I would be responsible for an upfront payment for all treatment and that I would have to make my co-pay before I was even seen. I tried to explain to her that I knew I would have to make the co-pay ($35) and that I had met my deductible because my wife has had over $100K of medical bills for the past year. I saw the PA and he took care of the issues I had and proceeded to the checkout counter. I paid my $35 co-pay, but before I left the woman behind the counter again called me back to the desk and told me that she could not get verification that I had met my deductible and that I had charges "pending". I know this is not true because I was just in Spencer Dermatology 3 weeks prior and got checked out with only the co-pay (strangely enough the front desk lady was not there). My wife, in the mean time, called the office to ask about what the issue was and the front desk lady told her that I had become so irate that they decided not to charge me the co-pay. This, of course, was not true. A short time later, this same person called my wife back and said she had made a mistake and that I did pay the co-pay, but refused to apologize for her accusations. As I said before, this is the second time I have had a VERY unpleasant experience with the lady behind the front desk. After the first time I chose not to go in to get some concerns I needed to have addressed for almost two years just because I wanted to avoid being harassed by this woman . I have had a long history (35+ years) of pre-cancerous growths removed and will always be a risk for developing melanoma if I do not attend to them promptly. To allow a person like this to influence my decision to seek treatment would be irresponsible on my behalf. I will not be going back to Spencer Dermatology and do not recommend that anyone go there as well.

I saw Dr Spencer to have Moh’s procedure done on a skin cancer on my forehead above my eyebrow. As others have said, his office and staff are very accommodating. I have many allergies and when I brought up my concerns on what I could tolerate, neither he nor his staff made me feel like I was too much trouble. Doctor Spencer has a very good bedside manner, he is willing to listen to the patient’s input and is an excellent doctor!!!

I had such a great experience working with Christina. I definitely plan on coming back. She explained everything and walked me through with follow up care on my skin care plan. She did an amazing job! The staff was courteous and friendly.

I saw Dr Freeman regarding a small spot on my face. He was very thorough, and suggested a biopsy for my troubled area. Within a week I got the call that my test was positive for cancer. They were quick to get me in for treatment, and I feel certain I am in very capable hands. Thank you for making your patients a priority. I have had only good experiences so far.

Today was my first time to Spencer Dermatology. It was very busy when I arrived, but the lady behind the counter was extremely polite and welcoming to every person who walked in the door! I was impressed with her customer service and even more impressed with Dr. Jill Salyards! She was extremely quick yet thorough with my exam and made sure to give me lots of information to take home. If you're looking for a knowledgable and personable dermatologist, look no further!

I REALLY DON'T WRITE REVIEWS EVER!!! Dr Spencer and his entire staff are the most caring Doctors office I've ever been to in my life. I'm 66 years old and owned construction company's in Florida and Denver and I've been a pilot for over 35 years. I Grew up in Florida, Lots of sunburn and I'm a big chicken at the Doctors. I've had 3 MOHS Surgery's by Doctor Spencer that I should have had years ago. Thank God they were only the Basal Cell cancers. I had no pain and I have no scars on my face. Check out his creds, this Doctor could be practicing anywhere and has. He's run and taught at some of the most prestigious hospitals in the world. I can't believe he's here in Florida. What a nice guy, he'll spend all the time with you you want!
