Dermatology of Las Cruces - Andrew Ondo, M.D.

**Update <6 months later: I ended up seeing another dermatologist in Las Cruces regarding a spot I was concerned about and was monitoring on my own for the last 3 months. The exam & diagnosis concluded that it is actinic keratosis (precancerous). I’m even more confident in my assessment that I did not have a thorough skin exam at Dermatology of Las Cruces. I scheduled as a new patient at Dermatology of Las Cruces with an overdue skin exam. Initially I was impressed with the ambiance of the office along with the professional demeanor and friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately, my initial impression was short lived. I would consider the skin exam incomplete compared to experiences I’ve had out of state that always included the scalp, nose, nails and buttocks being checked. An exam where I would lay on the exam table and was examined with a magnifier that contained a light that explored my back, front, and the sides of my body and extremities, (I would have to flip over during the exam whereas during this exam I stood). Any suspicious findings would then be recorded for future comparisons and would be verbally expressed to an assistant who recorded the findings on a tablet, on occasion photos were taken. (Photos were taken during this exam, but not of any moles and none were measured). These previous examples did not occur during my skin exam at Dermatology of Las Cruces which I found alarming considering the sun exposure we can be exposed to in NM. Secondly, I was given a prescription that was not called in per the compound pharmacy and when I called the office to check on the status of the script it took another week for it to be called in and lastly upon receiving my statement balance in the mail I was charged for a procedure that never occurred. It took two phone calls for the incorrect charge to be rectified. I really wanted to find an office to count on for my dermatological needs, yet I can’t settle when it comes to my skin health. LCH

As a first-time customer, I was disappointed with how my situation was handled. I provided the correct contact number when scheduling, but the office entered it incorrectly by transposing digits. Because of this, I didn’t receive any automated reminder which I rely on, like most people, to keep up with appointments. Despite this being a clerical error on their end, I was still charged a $40 no-show fee. I explained the situation, but was met with such harshness. Mistakes happen, but as a new customer, I expected more professionalism and fairness. Unfortunately, this experience left a very negative first impression. Reading other reviews there are a lot of issues the front office staff .

The dermatologist was excellent and explained my treatment thoroughly, which helped me understand everything clearly. However, I’ve found the medical assistant or receptionist to be quite rude during every phone call. It often feels like I’m inconveniencing her just by calling to schedule an appointment or to follow up about a prescription not being sent to my pharmacy (which has happened multiple times). While the doctor’s care has been great, the customer service experience has been disappointing. I kindly ask that patients be treated with more courtesy.

Based on previous reports I was hesitant about going to this practice. But I was very satisfied with my experience. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient. The medical assistant welcoming and considerate. The provider was through and competent. I would definitely recommends this office.

Saw Dr Ondo today! Thorough and his office staff, namely Christy was kind, compassionate and listened to my needs. Check in process was smooth sailing. I would definitely return. The provider is very knowledgeable and kind.

The Staff was great, especially ANGEL she was efficient, kind, and very helpful. The provider was very professional. I just want to say Thank you all for making it a comfortable and easy experience.
