Dr. Muldrow comes off as very knowledgeable and I usually appreciate a no-nonsense approach. However, if you're going to cause a burn on someone's face, however superficial, I really do feel you should ask first. Firstly, I waited 35 minutes past my appointment time to be taken back. When I got back, Dr. Muldrow brusquely rushed through my appointment. I mentioned I had a few concerns to address and they seemed like an inconvenience to her. When I brought up a dry patch on my face, she said to her assistant, "Let's zap that," and before I knew what was happening, she was spraying something cold and painful on my face. No explanation of what she was about to do, no consent asked for, no mention of what she thought the dry patch was and the treatment required. Just, I have a dry patch, and then within 15 seconds she was "zapping it." It stung considerably and I said, pointedly, "Ow..." And when it became apparent she was not going to explain what she had just done, I asked what it was for. She told me that they "do that" for some condition (I later looked up and I think she said "actinic keratosis" though I'm not 100% sure). She used the word "pre-cancerous." I was a bit concerned-- but she said not to worry without offering any explanation. I asked what the aftercare was for what she had just done and she just shrugged and said, "Keep it clean." After doing my research at home, I believe it was liquid nitrogen, and I see it is a very common procedure that requires little effort in aftercare and people very commonly see positive results. I'm sure I would have been fine with it if she had explained what she was intending to do. But the shock of being sprayed in the face with liquid nitrogen, causing a superficial burn, without warning or consent, was very upsetting. I ended up forgetting to ask about another issue I had meant to bring up because I was shaken. I called back a few days later and asked if I could pop in to have them take a quick look at the other issue, since Dr. Muldrow pulled the surprise freeze attack on me and I forgot to bring it up. The front desk informed me that I'd have to make another appointment and pay for it. I said that would not be acceptable and I wanted to talk to someone about Dr. Muldrow's behavior. She put me on hold, talked to her manager, and talked to Dr. Muldrow directly. When she came back she said Dr. Muldrow let her know that she does always obtain consent for procedures and unfortunately they would need to schedule another appointment. She said I didn't have a co-pay so it wouldn't be a problem. I explained that I don't have a co-pay to pay upfront but the cost of the appointment DOES come back to me, of course. I said it if it was not possible for me to stop in and not have to pay for another appointment (which I would not have had to do if I'd not had a procedure completed with no warning or consent), that I'd like to speak to someone about the incident. I was put on hold briefly again and when she came back she said Dr. Muldrow would call me directly later that evening. I said that if I speak with Dr. Muldrow, I'm sure that's where it would end, and I wanted to speak with someone who could document the event. I said I was worried there was a pattern of this behavior and if I spoke with Dr. Muldrow directly, I was sure it would not be documented. I was told that wouldn't be possible and the best they could do would be to connect me with the provider. I said I'd be looking for a new provider and would leave my story online instead and the response was, "Sounds good!" This is as factual an account as I could create and I hope it helps some future patients!
★☆☆☆☆ Worst dermatologist experience ever If I could give zero stars, I would. I left work early and paid an $80 copay to bring my daughter in for a recurring lip issue she’s been dealing with for three years. The doctor took one glance—literally less than a second—before declaring, "Yup, that’s an allergic reaction," without asking meaningful questions or considering other possible causes like hormonal changes or vitamin deficiencies. When I explained the history, she brushed it off and repeated her "allergic reaction" guess, then pushed for an allergy test referral. No examination, no effort, no professionalism. To make matters worse, she then decided to comment on my daughter’s acne—her biggest insecurity—despite the fact we were NOT there for that. Watching my daughter’s face drop was heartbreaking. It was unprofessional, unnecessary, and downright cruel. This doctor showed zero compassion, zero curiosity, and zero listening skills. I wouldn’t recommend her to my worst enemy. If you value your time, money, or dignity, find another dermatologist.
Migs Muldrow is not a hand-holder, but if you want an excellent dermatologist who really knows her stuff you will not find one who is better. She is highly regarded by other doctors in Denver. My husband and I have been going to Migs for many years and we are grateful to be under her skilled and compassionate care.
I took my 17-year-old daughter to this dermatologist and was shocked by how dismissive and unprofessional the visit was. The doctor "diagnosed" her within about two seconds of walking in the room — without asking a single question or listening to any background about the issue. She immediately claimed it was "definitely allergies" and brushed off the fact that this has been going on for three years and that my daughter doesn’t wear makeup regularly. She wouldn’t hear anything we had to say and just wanted to refer us to an allergy specialist. We paid an $80 copay for less than five minutes of her time. Since we were already there, I asked if she could at least do a quick mole check. She said we’d have to schedule another appointment for that, and then turned to my daughter and smugly said, "And we can assess your acne then as well." My daughter does not have acne — she works hard to keep her skin clear — and this unnecessary comment was hurtful and unprofessional, especially to a teenager who is already self-conscious about her skin. This visit felt rushed, careless, and completely lacking in empathy. I would not recommend this practice to anyone.
I should have read the reviews. She hardly looked at me (I have been to dermatologists in other states and she did not give me personal attention) and even told me I could consider laser treatments for my FRECKLES! I’m a redhead. I said I have freckles everywhere and she said I swear "we can’t laser your whole body but we can fix your face" I was appalled. Called my face discolored. Also she was holding a bottle of liquid nitrogen for some reason. I was very confused why she brought it in the room. I will not return.
I saw Dr. Muldrow three days ago for a general skin check. I was not finished derobing when, without knocking, she and her assistant opened the door and walked in with me standing there, almost naked. No apology, no warning. She did a quick exam of my body, then focused on my face where I have some spots she said were precancerous. Without really explaining what she was doing or how the procedure would affect my skin. she began using the liquid nitrogen to burn them off. No warning that it would sting and no warning that those places would blister and look even worse. Really, no education whatsoever, or questions of me. What if I had had important event to attend the next day with blisters on my hands and face? I then tried to ask her about these spots, what they were, would they go away, could they be removed, etc. Again, very little information. She handed me a brochure, told me the price for a procedure that could make my skin look better. and then left the room. I am sure she is quite knowledgeable and competent, but I also found her to be rather cold and impersonal. I doubt I will go back to her. Maybe this is the nature of dermatologists - their practice falls somewhere between health and image.
I have nothing but great things to say about about Dr. Margaret and Denver Dermatology. I have been with her since the early 2000's. I have had many procedures over the years, she is a consummate professional and always was concerned and empathetic for her patients. She's got a great bedside manner, which should keep you laughing during your visit. Thanks, Migs.
