We waited months for my daughter’s first dermatology appointment because her hair loss has been getting worse and very visible. Her appointment was at 10:50 AM, and we arrived at 10:48 AM. The front desk staff member, Sara, immediately told me, with a rude and dismissive tone, that we "should have been there at 10:30." Her attitude and facial expression felt very unwelcoming from the start. They told me they had texted information saying we needed to arrive 20 minutes early and bring a physical insurance card. That message was sent to my husband, who is currently out of state due to military duty, so I never received it. If those requirements are so strict and important, they should call patients directly. Other medical offices call before appointments to confirm and explain everything clearly. Their communication system feels very low-effort and poorly managed. Because of the change in my husband’s military status, we still haven’t received the updated physical insurance card. I didn’t go into detail — I simply told Sara that I didn’t have the physical card and asked if there was another way, such as looking it up or calling the insurance company. She refused and said they could not see my daughter. No apology, no effort to help, and no compassion. Just an annoyed expression and repeated "no" to every reasonable question. Her tone and facial expression made me feel extremely uncomfortable and singled out. The way she looked at me and spoke to me made me feel like I was being treated differently. It felt discriminatory, and it was very upsetting as a parent already stressed about my daughter’s condition. I asked to speak to the office manager, and they said the manager would call me. No one ever contacted me, which made me feel even more dismissed. This entire experience made me feel like this is not a welcoming place for every family. The lack of empathy, the poor communication, and the way I was treated made me feel deeply uncomfortable and unwelcome in their community.
My visit started and ended with the friendly, courteous and helpful front desk staff. Dr. Whaley’s assistant was professional and friendly. I have been going to Dr. Whaley for a number of years and always appreciate his thorough skin exams, courteousness, friendly nature, and professionalism. I feel like I am in good hands!
I received a call back from Summit Dermatology from someone who said she is a "lead," but the actual office manager still never contacted me. They told me they cancelled my daughter as a new patient because I cussed — which I admit was my mistake, and I do feel sorry for that. However, after this happened, I started reading many other complaints about this office. A lot of people wrote that the front desk staff is rude and the billing department is difficult. That made me realize this is a very small office run by an individual doctor, and I honestly don’t know how strong the management or training is. In a medical environment, the staff should be warm, sympathetic, and caring — especially when dealing with patients who are already stressed or frightened. I am seeing many reviews from people who had experiences similar to mine. If the staff had just apologized for the inconvenience — the 30-minute drive, pulling my daughter out of school, and the urgency of her hair loss condition — I would never have gotten so frustrated. I do not normally cuss in public, and the only reason I reacted that way was because I felt disrespected, ignored, and judged. The way the front desk looked at me and spoke to me made me feel racism and frustration. It was extremely uncomfortable and humiliating. Based on the number of similar reviews going back years, I don’t believe the doctors are unaware of this problem. If the doctors truly cared about patient experience, they would have trained their staff better and corrected these issues long ago. Instead, it seems like they simply accept the behavior. To me, that does not reflect the kind of medical professionalism, empathy, or character that I would ever want for my child. A medical office should not feel cold, dismissive, or money-driven. I definitely would not recommend this office.
Everyone is very nice and professional. And my doctor is great!! She makes me feel comfortable and talks and lets me know what she is doing. And if there is any concerns.
Dr J Osborn and her staff were outstanding. I had extreme anxiety about my condition, my procedure and my aftercare. Dr Osborn and her staff calmed my concerns and provided me excellent care. I am so pleased with the care I received.
During my recent appointment with Dr. Osborne, I was disappointed with the quality of care provided. The 15 minute appointment duration felt insufficient to allow for a thorough discussion of my medical history and current dermatological needs. Based on previous experiences at the dermatologist, the focus of this appointment appeared to be primarily procedural rather than patient-centered. I did not feel that Dr. Osborne dedicated adequate time to understanding my background. I will be finding another dermatologist to go to in the future.
Super rude staff! Even though I arrived 5 minutes EARLY, I was told that I had to be there 20 minutes early or I couldn’t be seen. When the staff went to confirm with the doctor, I was told that he refused to see me. The staff told me that I should know their policies, even though this is the first time that I have ever been here. When they told me their policy of arriving 20 minutes early was in the text they sent me, I showed them the text that did not say that, and they still refused to see me. Very frustrating to take time off of work to come to see a doctor that has such rigid rules that are not communicated ahead of time.
