I have been a client at Awaken Skin and Body for over four years. Shelitha is the holy grail of all of my skin treatment and products. She is truly a master of her craft and is always on top of the latest skin care products and innovations. I trust her implicitly. I am so fortunate to be one of her clients. ❤️

As a quick summary - I was not able to get any services. Over the weekend my mother and law, sister and myself decided that we were going to book glow ups for the upcoming holiday season and after a day of searching and scouring reviews we decided this would be the place. They are closed over the weekend but that did not dissuade us as we would call Tuesday to get some more information and get in the door ASAP - we each had our skin goal list and knew it would likely require a series of treatments each. I decided to call first as I knew my treatment options would be more limited as I am still breast-feeding (weaning not primary). This morning, I spoke with a lovely woman I believe her name was Holly. She took my information and said that an aesthetician would be in contact very soon for a consultation. I told her I was not set on any specific treatments - but was most interested in skin pen and clear + brilliant laser. I have some postpartum melasma and texture changes. I received a phone call the same day from an esthetician that had glowing reviews online- I was thrilled. That quickly turned around 15 seconds into the less than 2 minute conversation. I very briefly explained that I knew some treatments were off the table for now due to breastfeeding (toxins primarily) but I was interested in clear + brilliant and skin pen. I would have added that I’d be interested in just about anything to help but I was cut off and really wasn’t included in the rest of the phone call. The call ended with me confused and disappointed. In that very short phone call I was called pregnant at least 3 times (I haven’t been since 2023) and told to call back when I’m done because she doesn’t treat pregnant or breastfeeding due to the numbing cream. When I very briefly questioned the numbing cream point she attempted to speak over my head to add some point of authority to what she was saying- It was odd and uncalled for to say the least. [At the bottom of this, I will include brief but factual recommendations / guidelines on Anesthetic type cream while breastfeeding. ] As a provider, it is entirely within her right to deny treatment that she’s uncomfortable providing- that’s fair. The rudeness and lack of any other recommendations/ services is really where my frustrations lie. Our trio will still be booking a glow up- we will just have to look a little longer for the perfect spot. I’m unsure what numbing cream she was referring to but for what it’s worth- "The most commonly used product is BLT cream, which contains benzocaine, lidocaine and tetracaine. This combination is widely used in dermatology for in-office procedures and is generally considered safe for breastfeeding mothers when used as directed. While BLT cream and other lidocaine-based numbing agents are compatible with breastfeeding, it is important to avoid applying them near the nipple or areola. When applied to intact skin on other parts of the body, these numbing creams are both safe and effective for breastfeeding mothers undergoing microneedling (Kouba, 2016)." The area I had asked about was my face- not my breasts- still within her discretion to refuse- I would have gladly paid for / provided a specific anesthetic cream if that is not what their office typically uses. I guess we’ll never know. Have a wonderful day ladies. Hope with this information, you can have a better set of tools to help some future postpartum mamas that just want a little TLC.

The professionals at Awaken Skin have given me better skin in my 60s than I had the previous 10 to 15 years. I go for Dysport, Clear and Brilliant, and derma-planing. Lines are gone, and my skin is clearer and fresher looking than it has ever been. I even get comments on how good my skin looks, and that's rare for someone at 67! Awaken has found solutions to keep my skin looking as best, and I'm very grateful!

I have received 2 procedures at Awaken from Julie and Sheletha. On my first visit I was impressed with the professionalism from the front desk to the technicians. Both times I loved how detailed they were explaining everything about both procedures. I would highly recommend Awaken Spa!
