This place is horrible nobody seems to know what is going on even the poor employees always having to ask one person then that person has to ask the other till it reaches the office manager and she doesn’t even know. They say they will call you back but they don’t. If you are lucky enough to get a return call they want you to travel to their other locations in Elk Grove or Stockton! If people wanted to a dentist out there I’m sure they would have gotten one out there. Zero stars is not an option so I gave it one. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TO GO HERE doesn’t look very well cleaned either if you look carefully they do bare minimum in cleaning rooms it seems
I would not recommend River Valley Dental. I initially came here last year because they accepted Denti-Cal, which my regular dentist does not. While the front office staff and most of the dentists were kind, my overall experience was frustrating, painful, and will now be costly for me. At my first visit (February 2024), Dr. Gherra said I needed three root canals (teeth 2, 3, 7) and two cavities filled. Two weeks later, Dr. Basrai filled the cavities and, thankfully, canceled the root canal on tooth 7 after re-evaluating—it didn’t need one. I appreciated her honesty. In April, I returned for the other two root canals. After being numbed, I was left waiting nearly an hour and had to ask for more anesthesia. Dr. Sekhon performed the procedure and was kind, but the equipment felt unusually rough—like a jackhammer. I’ve had root canals before and never experienced that sensation. A month later, I received permanent crowns. Tooth 3 was sensitive when biting down, and the crown fell off in September. Dr. Singh initially said there was decay and further treatment was needed. Two weeks later, Dr. Dhami (the one dentist I found rude) said it was just staining and reattached the crown. Since then, I’ve had a persistent bad taste in my mouth and sensitivity in all the crowned teeth. Despite multiple visits and complaints, no resolution was found. Dr. Singh said the issue could be due to a deep cavity on tooth 4 and placed a crown there as well. I still cannot chew on the right side due to ongoing pain and sensitivity when biting down. In February (2025), I had a check-up scheduled, but it was rescheduled three times. I told Dee (the office manager) that I was still having issues and needed to be seen. When I called to confirm the last appointment (near the end of March), they told me they no longer take Denti-Cal and had canceled it. Because Denti-Cal won’t replace crowns for five years, I now have to come up with $5,042 out-of-pocket to have my regular dentist fix all three crowns. He confirmed my bite is off and the crowns are too thin in the center (he was going to try and fix my bite but can’t due to the thinness of the crowns). If there are other underlying issues not appearing on the x-rays, he’ll have to remove the crowns to assess, but we can’t proceed until I have the funds to fix them. I also had difficulty obtaining my treatment plans. When I asked, I was told they couldn’t release them due to "the documentation on them." Only after involving the Dental Board of California and mentioning HIPAA laws did they provide all 15 treatment plans (took a total of five months to receive them). They also billed my insurance for three x-rays that were never taken, which I reported to my insurance company. To make matters worse, the stress caused by this situation impacted my health, and I had to see a cardiologist for stress-related symptoms and undergo multiple tests. Overall, while most staff were genuinely kind, the billing issues, poor dental work, and lack of transparency have left me deeply dissatisfied and caused lasting physical, emotional, and financial stress. I hope this review helps others make an informed decision. I would also recommend you check their reviews out on yelp as well.
I have been going to River valley for around 3 yrs and the staff is fantastic-- always helpful and friendly. Dr. Sekhon is incredible! I've always struggled with dental anxiety, but she has made me feel much more at ease. She explains treatment in a way that's easy to understand. I highly recommend River Valley Dental. If I could I would give them 10 stars!
First off, the front staff are great as are most of the assistants and that is why the extra star. The biggest problem is with the dentist herself. Having only one dentist and then only being in one day a week is horrible. What's even worse is her chair side manner. She makes you feel cheap and down on yourself if you cannot just add more work right away. She was removing a crown next to a tooth that was not dead, nor anywhere near being dead. Well she was pulling too hard or not paying attention, and the tool slipped and hit my other tooth. Two days later that same tooth broke at the gum line. She denies any part of it and told me I was lying. I have already seen another dentist and I am beyond happy with them. Do yourself a favor and read all the reviews and go somewhere else.
I have good experience with the good dentists here and the staff are friendly and attentive to your needs.
The worst dentist I’ve ever been to. Last year in June 2024, it’s March of 2025 and I was robbed for $4000 dollars. $600 my cash, $3,400 from my insurance. My temporary came off , and Dr. Sekhon agreed to fix it by putting a crown. Long story short I’ve been to 10+ appointment of them trimming my tooth down and putting crowns that don’t fit. Another doctor refused to put a tooth in and Dr Sekhon tried to force it. One of her dental assistants told me to leave and not look back at this place due to them trying to squeeze that tooth in. I’m in so much pain and a victim of malpractice, thank you.
The dentist and hygentist were great! The office staff is terrible. So unprofessional, forgetful, and rude. Didn’t bother to verify my benefits that were provided two weeks in advance when I made the appointment. Lied to me and told me she couldn’t verify over the phone and that she had to request availity access which takes hours not weeks.. I used to work in medical billing and used availty and phone verification with Premera and BCBS daily… she forgot to run them I’m assuming then tried to cover herself. Then when I showed up asked me if I have insurance and quoted me as a self-pay patient because they couldn’t figure out how to run my insurance. I had to show the office manager my insurance portal on my phone, find out if they were in network, and then sign a form saying I could be responsible for my full visit even with insurance.. This pushed my appointment time an hour later than it was originally for. I needed fillings so I was waiting to hear from them on what my insurance would cover for those fillings didn’t get a response for over two weeks so I called and asked they said they hadn’t gotten a chance to look at it. They told me they would call me back Monday. Tuesday I still had not received a call so I followed up. They told me they didn’t have time Monday. They were too busy. Then told me they still hadn’t gotten around to it and they would give me a call back when they could. They had time to process my claim so they could get paid for my cleaning within days, and ask me how much my insurance paid them when I called because she couldn’t see. I immediately switched dentist because I’m not going to continue to wait for them to do their job. Terrible experience would not recommend at all. It’s sad because the actual dentist was great. Highly recommend getting an office manager that’s familiar with technology, customer service, or a calendar... For reference my appointment was June 17th and I called back to check on this July 5th, was supposed to get a call back the 8th and then called again the 9th and decided to switch to another dentist.
