Aspen Dental - Schenectady, NY - Niskayuna

UPDATE: I got my lower left wisdom tooth pulled on January 9, 2025, and still to this day (February 2, 2026) I have severe neck pain all around and a clicking feeling when I look down and up. Every time I look down or up I have about a 30 sec dizzy spell. When I sneeze omg the pain that goes through my neck and dizziness that follows is absolutely nerve wracking! I am a nurse and cannot do my job effectively due to this. While yes my first review was 5 stars because I was in so much pain, they were able to get me in fairly quickly and the day of my appointment the staff was really super nice and the check in process was smooth. I don’t know what the heck took place back there or how far/long they hyperextended my neck but this pain is unbearable!!!! I have been to my pcp a couple of times about it and she brushes it off and gave me a referral to physical therapy (I know that she is just doing her job), but I am STILL so extremely uncomfortable!!!!!!! I hate this feeling so much, even TRYING to sleep at night is not good. To move from the left side to the right side and vice versa, I need to fully wake up and go extremely slow because that clicking at the base/nape of my neck, dizziness and pain is so bad. So my review went from 5 stars to one star. I will never return to Aspen Dental and nor will I refer anyone to any of their locations, especially this one.

I am glad for the thoroughness of the exams and questions about my oral hygiene. The staff is so friendly and helpful. It's easier to be seen than some other places. I went and had an appointment within the week. And at this old age, I finally feel like I am going to get the dental care I need.

As a person with anxiety of the dentist from a child through adulthood. I have never felt confident or comfortable going and sitting in a dentist chair. When I visited Aspen of Niskayuna I was hopeful, I had a tooth issue and was easily fitted in and seen. I have never went to an office where I had such a positive experience from the moment I walked in to the moment I left. Walking in I’m immediately greeted and check in is nice and easy. The front staff from talking on the phone to seeing in person have alway treated me so wonderfully and they are so kind. I have been dealing with many issues one after another so I have been in and out of this office for months. At this point they feel like family. I can talk about any concerns I have to even joking and laughing with everyone. The medical staff that is Dr. Jorge Ruiz and Dr. Park and their team, have been a dream. I only saw Dr Park a couple times but he was detailed and included me in on everything. Setting myself at ease. Dr. Jorge Ruiz and his assistants have truly helped me get over my anxiety and fears of being in a dentist chair. I will sing praises about him, he treats me as a human, not just a account number. He talked through everything with me and answers all questions. His attention to details and making sure I am comfortable and happy with the process to even playing music in the room to make me feel more at ease. These are the touches I wish I had all my life, I’m so happy I have him and his team now. I won’t ever go anywhere else, unless he does. I will totally follow. His confidence and professionalism with a touch of humanity. He is absolutely incredible. I will highly recommend this office. I think what people need to keep in mind yes it’s a chain but you do get the highest level of care, I say better than most private practices. Insurance and corporate America is real but keep in mind there are good doctors and they do great work. They are also fighting insurance so have a little understanding when it comes to finances as hard as it truly is in the country. If anything as a take a way you are your own healthcare advocate so speak up and ask the questions. They will answer them, don’t always expect you will get a handout every time you leave the office. As upfront they will give you anything you need, they did for myself at least. Keep up the amazing work Aspen team!

The doctors and office staff at this location are great and wonderful - now that Dr. Birman is gone, everyone on staff is kind and great to work with. I'd give them 4-stars, or 5-stars. EDIT / UPDATE 1-21-26 - See below for a warning about billing - but they did work with me to work through the issues with insurance, and I wound up getting most of the money back after working with them. I upped my review from 1 star to 4 stars on the basis that they were willing to kindly and courteously work with me through the issue. A warning: I had originally rated 1-star here for the mess that is their billing. I had a complicated wisdom-tooth removal in April. I have been dealing with incompetence in the Aspen Dental billing department since then, and - hopefully - closed it out today. Delta Dental said the procedure should have been billed through medical insurance first; I had to cajole Aspen Dental's billing department into even taking a copy of my medical insurance to submit a claim. Then the claim was denied, naturally. Then they sent me a notice expecting me to pay the money Delta Dental owes them. Except I didn't learn about this until I went in for a cleaning, because they had gotten my address wrong and never sent me an email or text. I had to re-teach the billing staff the history of the issue, because of how terrible their documentation was, and sent them the paperwork of the denial. Then they sent a final notice to pay to my parents house in South Carolina. While I had heard nothing from Delta Dental denying or approving the claim that they SHOULD have submitted. So as far as I knew, they were still seeking that same amount from the insurance company. I paid the bill so I could just be done with the incompetent mess that is Aspen Dental Billing. But per above - I did eventually get my money back. The office team and doctors are wonderful and will do a great job taking care of you. But if there's an issue with insurance, be ready to spend the rest of your year being run ragged with billing problems.

I have been going to Aspen Dental for a couple years now maybe a little more. The service is great, if you have any questions they are more than happy to help you. The staff are always nice and professional. I’ve had my partials done here by Dr. Jorge Ruiz Lourido and he did an awesome job on my dental work. I definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking for a dentist.
