The Combat Air Museum in Topeka is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates aviation history. The aircraft on display are carefully restored and well presented — you can tell a lot of pride and effort went into preserving each one. The layout allows you to really get up close and take your time with every exhibit. The staff was friendly and respectful, giving us space to explore at our own pace, which made the visit even better. Admission is fairly priced, and there’s even a discount for veterans. Parking is easy, though the facility isn’t fully wheelchair accessible in all areas. Highly recommended for veterans and anyone with a love for aircraft and military history. It’s the kind of place you could spend hours in without realizing it.
My kids and I loved learning about historic aircraft from the first and second world wars, Korea, Vietnam, and the Cold War. They really loved how accessible the aircraft were and how some could be boarded and viewed from the inside. This was an excellent experience!
Beautiful place full of amazing planes and history! I’ve been coming to this museum off and on for decades and each visit feels fun and unique. Love the little models of the panes with a brief history of them and the beautiful art work in the gallery. The planes look to be in good condition considering their age and there’s a great variety! Thank you and all your volunteers over the years to give us a memorable experience and I can’t wait to come back again!
Talk about a hidden gem!! I’m not very interested in aviation, but my husband is. I still had a great time walking around with him and seeing all the types of airplanes and helicopters. The museum features two hangars of planes. There’s a lot of informational plaques that tell you about the planes. I loved that there were stairs at some of the planes so you could walk up and see the cockpit. There is not AC in the hangars, but they have plenty of fans around! There is AC in their exhibit section of the gift shop. You could find a gift for any aviation enthusiast at the gift shop! Well worth the $7 entry fee!!
I absolutely fricking LOVE the Combat Air Museum!! For starters, you're greeted by two friendly missiles when you enter, and you can touch the inside of a helicopter (inside of the museum part). The airplanes are super cool and huggable and I hug them every time. Hehe plen. Cute plen. Plen say hi. Plen guard museum.
Unique experience to get into the first AWACS the EC-121 Constellation, College Eye Vietnam warning and control aircraft.
My husband and I visited here today on a cross-country road trip and it really was a highlight. We had the pleasure of meeting Kevin, Rance, John, and Chuck—Chuck gave us an excellent tour, and John kindly showed us how to use the flight simulator. We hope to return next time we’re in the area. Thank you to the stellar team here.
