We visited Shields Date Garden on December 26 for brunch, and it turned out to be a wonderful way to spend part of our last day in the desert. I ordered the Shields sopes with carnitas, along with a side of rice, and my husband had the chilaquiles, adding chorizo. Both dishes were excellent—well flavored, satisfying, and thoughtfully prepared, with good portion sizes overall. The only small note I’d make is that the $3.50 side of rice was pretty small, but that didn’t take away from how tasty everything was. Service was very friendly, and our food came out quickly. We sat on the patio, which was peaceful and relaxed. As we were getting ready to leave, a live guitarist came out and started playing, which added such a lovely, welcoming touch to the atmosphere. We arrived on the early side, so there were only a few other couples dining, but by the time we left it was filling up nicely. Beyond the restaurant, Shields offers more than just food. They have what they call "The Walk," which tells the story of Jesus from birth through death and resurrection. It was beautifully done. While I didn’t quite understand the connection between the date palm gardens and the biblical display, it’s clear this is a place with a strong commitment to sharing their faith, and they do so thoughtfully on their property

The world is vast, and it is filled with so many incredible restaurants waiting to be discovered. I truly realized this truth during my recent visit to The Cafe at Shields. I stopped by this gem on a long-awaited trip to Palm Springs. Recommended by an acquaintance, it turned out to be a place where the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is even better—complete with live music and open-air dining. After your meal, you can stroll through the park located just behind the restaurant. The park features beautiful sculptures depicting the major stories of the Bible. It is a perfect place to spend a deeply satisfying afternoon, walking along the path, reading the inscriptions, and capturing memories through photos. If you are looking for that perfect blend of taste and tranquility, this is the place to be.

whoa! what a gem of a place. we stopped here with a large group for brunch after a birthday weekend in Coachella. we were sat quickly. the food options were great, it was tough to pick. I had the Date Me Omelet with country potatoes, and a biscuit and gravy on the side. so, so delicious. then it was fun to walk around the area and check out the shop and theater. wish I lived closer to this place! would love to come back and try more items on the menu.

Went here for brunch and got seated right away--no wait, which was a nice surprise. Our server was genuinely friendly and made sure everything came out quickly. They even handed my kids activity sheets, which bought us a few peaceful minutes. For food, the kids ordered the chicken tacos and the date pancakes. Both were a hit. I tried the "Date Me Omelette," and the flavor caught me off guard in a good way--savory with a touch of sweetness from the dates. We also ordered the bacon-wrapped stuffed dates, and those were packed with flavor. Overall, great service, interesting menu, and dishes that actually deliver on taste. I'd come back.

If you want an amazing breakfast , hot and fresh, come here! Service was 100% and food is worth the price for sure! Coffee was good and strong. Hard working and attentive staff. Visiting from Arizona and we 10/10 recommend. Nice surprise to have live music playing.

We didn't actually dine at the cafe, just ordered date shakes and sat at the counter. I'd been coming here for years but it's been about 25 years since my last visit. Wow, has it changed! Expanded into a sizeable gift shop, etc. That's all good, but the main reason to come is for a fresh date shake. What a disappointment! The shake is so sweet like straight sugar. I asked, and the server pointed to the date sugar crystals in a container on the bar counter. They no longer mix fresh dates into vanilla ice cream. It tasted nothing like the old fashioned shakes I remember.
