Yumvillage

I went here for the first time on MLK Day 1/20/26. Upon entry we were greeted by the owner who was warm and friendly. He asked if we had any food allergies and I told him I was vegan. While my wife and I were ordering our food he brings me a small vegan sampler and I was blown back. My wife placed our orders and sat. Moments later our food arrived and it did not disappoint. I definitely enjoyed it and recommend it to everyone.

Yum Village is amazing. The jerk chicken was perfectly seasoned and full of flavor, and the jollof rice was rich and cooked just right. One of the best meals I’ve had in Detroit—definitely coming back.

the owner gave me a sample plate because i didn't know what i wanted, very personable and passionate about his work. his customer service made me want to return before i even tried the food. everything was delicious. rarely do i tip on carryout, today i tipped. 10 stars for yumvillage!

The chicken was so hard and old that I couldn’t even poke it with a fork, let alone cut or chew it. It was completely inedible and extremely disappointing. What stood out to me was that everyone else in the restaurant seemed happy with their food, while mine was shockingly bad. I was the only Asian customer there, and while I can’t say whether that had anything to do with it, the situation made me uncomfortable given the huge difference in quality. I won’t be returning. I’m confused by the positive reviews and feel it’s important to warn others to be cautious before dining here.

Food is authentically delicious! Very clean and excellent vibes as soon as we walked through the front door. Staff's smile and warm welcome, we felt like family. Midtown is a hidden gem in Detroit, and YumVillage is a must-go-to Caribbean foodie experience. Will be returning!

This is my first time ever trying Caribbean food and I had the jerk oxtail. It was phenomenal and the owner and staff were so welcoming and friendly! I would recommend this to anyone 🙂

Thought I could come in a grab a chicken patty real quick but it wasn’t that type of patty. Yum yum is serving a specialty type jerk chicken patty with sauce that is deeeeelicious! Delicious patty. Loved the Banana peppers. Definitely worth the wait 👍
