Service was great. I also really enjoyed the cocktails and desserts (tofu donuts and soft serve), although I do think they can tone down the amount of sugar on the tofu donuts, since the sauces are sweet enough. I love the soft serve though; would probably go back just for that. Now onto the less exciting things. The bao buns are okay, but there is just way too much sauce that I couldn’t taste the lobster. And the slice of American cheese on the perch bao is interesting too… Unfortunately they also served us *raw chicken* so even though I enjoyed the few pieces of the fried chicken that were indeed cooked (and the red sauce), I was quite upset about it overall. The staff and house manager were nice and apologized multiple times, and I understand that things happen. But I would probably tell them to make sure the chicken is thoroughly cooked next time.

Our first visit to Basan and it did not disappoint. It was very quiet when we arrived at 630 this Friday night. ...no games or concerts downtown tonight. Our waitress was excellent. She explained the menu and offered up her favorites. I had "scouted" the menu so pretty much knew what we wanted. We shared many things and all were very good to great. We particularly loved the potato tornado, lobster bun and Korean pancake. I loved the egg rolls but they were too spicy for my wife...not your typical egg rolls! The chef here is clearly talented and creative with the menu and the delicious sauces and seasonings. The peanut butter brownies brought with the bill were a nice touch and delish. Highest recommendation for Basan.

Amazing experience every single time! Creative and delicious food and drinks in a beautiful environment. Closest you can get to cool Chicago or New York vibes in Detroit. Compliments to Chef Connor, Emily, our server Jade and the entire staff at Basan. Definitely try their tornado potatoes, buns, bacon skewer, chicken wings and tofu donuts, as well as cool Ube drinks. Thank you, Basan, for another fun night on the town - we’ll be back!

We were going to an event at the Fox Theater. Popped in Basan to give it a try. It has a Korean family-style vibe. We did small plates and shared everything. Our favorite was the Tornado Potato. After ordering six dishes shared between 2 people, we were full. Griffin was our server and he was amazing! He was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu items. We loved the atmosphere. We sat in the dining room. Next time, we will try the comfy couches everyone was talking about!!

What a disappointment...decided to stop by for dinner and start to finish was less than stellar...host were inattentive, greet times long, server was personable but kept disappearing for extended periods of time and food flavors quite dull (some items totally tasteless)...and trust me, we ordered a good variety of food. We were party of two and spent over $200

The ambiance at Basan is was relaxed and quite pleasurable. We were seated immediately, and our server Hannah was awesome. The staff’s attentiveness was beyond reproach, every finished plate and empty glass was promptly removed from our table. The food however, was a letdown, the octopus slathered in BBQ sauce which overwhelmed the flavor. The meatball skewer was tasty, but the meatballs were dry. The tornado potato was interesting. The chicken and shrimp buns were average, and while the scallops were literally cooked to perfection, the sauce lacked any distinct flavor. While the service and ambiance were spot on, the culinary aspect of Basan was disappointing.

Had an awesome meal at Basan with friends—no drinks, just pure food coma bliss. Our waitress was spot on, nailing every recommendation like a culinary psychic. Everything we ordered was a hit, and the service was top-notch. Looking forward to my next visit back! Update: Went back for a 2nd visit before the Wings game, and it didn’t hit like the first time. Service was okay, but our first app came out in under five minutes—so fast even the bartender commented on it. Didn’t taste fresh. Hoping my next visit is more like the first!
