Unbound Books and Coffee 格外书店

80% of the books are in Chinese. Nice variety. Some books in English by Chinese authors too. Cute reading nooks. Great shop

Been there twice. Two stars for loving their highly curated book selection but both times I ended up feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. Before I entered the bookstore I was excited and full of expectation but always left disappointed. The first time nobody greeted us. I bought 2 books anyway for support yet the male manager conversed nothing but "do you need a bag?" The second time nobody said hi to us as well and what made me fell more uncomfortable was when I sat there for a while, I heard clearly that the female manager would warmly greet some English-speaking Asian customers coming after us immediately while ignored the Chinese-speaking customers coming after them by not acknowledging their presence at all, too. I guess running a bookstore there depends a lot on connecting with your community, but it felt like they were doing the opposite.

Love this place, SF needs a good Chinese book store since a bunch closed during COVID. Great selection, they have events and a cute little coffee bar too. Owner seems very nice and helpful.

The only independent Chinese bookstore in sf. Cherish this place.
