If there is a Shaun Smith that works there, I want him to know that I have never seen anybody pack anything with so much care. I bought two books online, and had them sent to Pittsburgh, for medical needs. Not only did the books arrive intact, but the "book marker" and note were a special touch that turned my sad day into a happy one. Thank you for making my day and caring about your customers in a day and age when nobody cares about anything except themselves.

My favorite bookstore of all time! I know people love Powell for its size and ota more organized. But THIS. This place is gold. The prices are incredible. The staff is always nice. But the nostalgia of the book stacked everywhere. This has been a favorite place of mine since I was a little kid coming here getting to pick out some of my first dew books myself here.

This place is just beautiful, not only the staff is always friendly but the building has an amazing vibe. You can easily get lost in all the variety. Totally worth it.

The most insane selection I’ve ever seen!! The store was literally overflowing with books new and old, and at competitive prices! As well as having a vast selection of new and contemporary works, Smith’s boasts some truly unique finds. I picked up a pocket mushroom foraging book from 1946, and found an issue of the Science Fiction and Fantasy magazine issue from the 60s featuring an Isaac Asimov story! Whether you’re looking for the latest and greatest or a hidden gem, you’re sure to find it here.

Prepare yourself for entry of this enchanted wonderland of knowledge. I make sure I have nothing to do for at least 2 hours before I enter this magical land. It's almost a sincere overload they have so much stuff. Great prices and huge selection.

BEST BOOKSTORE in the area, loved it for the 3+ decades I've been here. Now, unfortunately, though I am a US citizen (an elder, the daughter of US citizens who were themselves children and grandchildren of US citizens, and not being or appearing "other" within the current myriad definitions of "other"), no longer will I risk personal safety visiting downtown Eugene even for Smith, my all-time favorite bookstore. This goes for many other businesses in downtown Eugene, too. From street crime to aggressive panhandlers, from homeless sleeping in now filthy doorways to drug overdosers gasping their final breath on city sidewalks and streets, to in-your-face protesters demanding that even the elderly (including those us who are mobility challenged) join the protests otherwise be accused of being "complicit," to ICE cruelly and violently thugging anyone and everyone for the sole purpose of gaining $$ bonuses. Downtown Eugene is no longer the place for this lifelong bookworm. Even the public libraries here aren't safe any longer. Now resorting to buying online where I can afford to. CITY OF EUGENE you can do better.

I've been shopping at Smith Family since I was in my 20s, and I'm 64 now! They have been providing Eugene with books for decades! Just a great LOCAL business!
