Plain Talk Books & Coffee

Coffee shop and bookstore with an extensive food menu. I stopped in after a visit to the capital building, ordered some lunch and stayed for a few hours to work on my laptop. The staff were welcoming and kind! They don’t have decaf coffee, if that’s your thing. Also, the turkey Reuben was delicious but would have been so much better if the turkey was warm instead of served cold on the toasted bread.

Plain Talk Books & Coffee is the perfect start to my week. Smooth music with the bustle of the city just outside the window. Enjoying my coffee and bagel in solitude. This is my first visit, I walk by here plenty of time, usually in the afternoon. I always thought the traffic would be loud, but it is just the opposite.

Cozy, smooth music, perfectly imperfect vibes and ample seating. Surprisingly large food menu; tried the The Bomb Egg bagel sandwich - it was unique and delicious.

Excellent service, drinks, and food by the ladies. Good electrical outlet locations and quiet music for working on the laptop while here. We come here regular for both their big breakfast legal sandwiches and their lunch with Italian soda drinks.

First time at this spot about hearing they had vegan options, it was great! adorable nice interior, tons of books, VERY kind and helpful staff. food was great we got a vegan bagel and turkey club! Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a cute spot in the east village for vegan options or non vegan. They also have a great coffee menu, will come again ! <3

Perfect cafe in downtown Des Moines. Located amidst a bunch of cute shops and restaurants this cafe/book store has a cozy vibe with the tastiest treats. I can hear with some friends to hang out and read. We all ordered coffee, which was delicious, and then got some food as well. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was SO good. Would definitely come here again. There’s parking upfront. Big open space inside. Half is diner themed and half is books and casual coffee spot. In the back there is also a little room with additional books and games to play. I will be back!
