Gio & Gio New Concept Salon Downtown

Gio & Gio is the best, most reliable, and most reasonably priced hair salon that has ever done my hair! I've been going to Gio & Gio since February of 2019, when I was a freshman at SDSU and had a white platinum bob. As background, I am a natural level 5 brunette with thin, straight hair. I would go every 4-6 weeks for root touch ups, and surprisingly, my hair stayed very healthy during that time period. I have been a loyal customer ever since. Since COVID restrictions lifted in 2021, I've been going to them for a blonde ashy balayage about twice a year. I always leave feeling luxurious and grateful for the reasonable mid-tier price point. As of this month, I made an egregious mistake by using my extra ClassPass credits at a new stylist for my balayage maintenance and haircut. This stylist threw bleach on my hair in random places like it was a painting and barely toned any of my hair. I left with orange and yellow streaks along with random platinum pieces that were tinged red and green. (last picture, before I got color correction at Gio & Gio). I could have done a better job on my bathroom floor. The next day, Gio, the kind and thoughtful owner, got me into the downtown location and assigned three stylists (two of them were Logan and Thomas) to work on my extensive color correction. The end result was beautiful and perfect! (first two pictures) The care the stylists put into my hair was immeasurable, and as always, it was an affordable and reliable option. I always recommend the salon to all my college friends and now grad school friends, and they have nothing but praise to say after going.I only let Gio & Gio touch my hair from now on. Please go to Gio & Gio if you want to feel like a million bucks without paying an arm and a leg! 😉

I had a SUPERB experience here—so glad I tried this place out! I’ve always walked by it and it looks so nice, modern and professional inside. I had such a wonderful hair stylist who exceeded my expectations!! Such an amazing haircut, medium layers and curls—I am truly happy! They are so affordable as well—even more affordable and much higher quality than Ulta (where I used to go). Huge shout out to Luz for being such a friendly, excellent stylist!!

Jayleen is not only an incredible stylist, but the very embodiment of kind. From the moment I sat in her chair, she made me feel comfortable and truly cared for. It was my first appointment with her, and she listened to every detail about what I wanted to do with my hair. I felt so heard and understood, which is rare to find. Her passion for her craft shines through in the way she works. Not only in her skill, but in the gentle and genuine way she connects with her clients. She has a calming presence that makes you feel completely at ease, and you can tell she genuinely wants you to walk out feeling your absolute best. Jayleen made me feel both taken care of and excited about my hair, and I’m so grateful I found her. I couldn’t recommend her more highly. She’s truly one of a kind!

I had a great experience getting my haircut here in downtown San Diego. The barber was friendly, professional, and took the time to understand exactly what I wanted. The attention to detail was impressive, and the final result was clean, sharp, and exactly what I needed. The shop was clean and had a lux vibe, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely coming back for my next cut. Highly recommend!

Gio and Gio used to be my favorite place. I was a frequent client until one day, my usual girl was busy so they gave me to a completely different girl. I thought to myself how bad can it be? It’s just a bangs trim. She asked me how I wanted them. I literally said "straight and not above the eyebrows, I don’t want my brows to show". She said okay. When she was done, my bangs were way too short, completely above my eyebrows. And on top of that , she cut my face framing pieces, making them layered for some strange reason. I literally never asked for this. It was a BANGS trim, straight. I have been growing out my layers for 2 years, I absolutely hate that she cut my hair without my permission. It’s like going back to square one. I wish I could file a more serious complaint. Anyway when she finished my bangs and I say my micro bangs in the mirror, I said "I told you not above the eyebrows" she had the audacity to say "that’s not above the eyebrows… that’s on the eyebrows" not only did she do the opposite of what I asked but she lied trying to make me feel like I was wrong. The receptionist said "that’s definitely above the eyebrows. I’m not charging you" I was thankful for this but they shouldn’t have messed up in the first place. I started crying and no one noticed the manager and not my usual girl came to talk to me. I left and it’s been weeks and no one has texted me to apologize and they have texted me before. So disappointed. Never going back.
