It was a pleasure to stay at Roxbury Farm. The bedroom was spacious, comfortable and clean. Madilyn is a gracious and friendly host. I will definitely stay here again on any trip to the area in the future.
Delicious kimchi and a cool vibe inside. We enjoyed the sunchoke kimchi we bought. You can pay with Venmo.
A hidden gem. East Branch is quite possibly one of the best and most unique farmstands in the Catskills. Owned by a lovely Korean lady, East Branch Farms sells not only organic produce, but also their famous kimchi, "Kimchee Harvest." On Wednesdays through sundays, they also serve delicious, homemade Korean food such as japchae (highly recommend) and kimchi pancakes — fresh ingredients straight from the farm. Doesn’t get any better than this!
We stopped here for kimchi, and ended up getting plates of banchan as well. It was some of the most incredible Korean food I’ve ever eaten. Highly recommended. We will go out of our way to return here.
I wrote a negative review on AirBnb following our stay. AirBnb declined to post my review stating it to be "irrelevant". I have discovered AirBnb rarely if ever posts negative reviews for the properties they rent. Consider this when booking a room via their service, also note that this property has very few reviews over the past few years which in retrospect says a lot. Here is what I posted, I'll just leave it here without further comment. The farm is run down, with dilapidated buildings, some appearing to be on the verge of collapse. There is rusty abandoned farm equipment scattered about the property and piles of garbage and rotting food behind buildings. The listing says "Working organic vegetable farm that loves to cook. we are minimizing contact with guests and between guests, at the moment kitchen and shared spaces are off limits. however, your room will have coffee maker and little cooler with ice." There was no coffee maker in the room, there was no coffee, there no cooler with ice. We asked for a cup of coffee one morning we were told "Go down the road to town". There was no TV in the room, apparently the TV pictured in the listing is in the shared room which was off-limits despite all restaurants, delis, stores, hotels and public establishments being open in the area (after everything reopened following COVID shut downs, we stayed there August 2021). The listing says private entrance with lockable door, however the main door from outside opens to a shared hallway to several other rooms including the inaccessible shared room, and there are stairs to a second level with more rooms. We were not given a key for the main door or to our bedroom. When we inquired we were told "you don't need it". We had booked room "2" we were given room "3" with no explanation. Our room is not pictured in the listing. Room 2 is in the front of the house which faces a busy two lane highway with cars whizzing by less than 20 feet from the windows all day long and all hours of the night. Closing the windows helped somewhat, however there was no air conditioning, ceiling fan or any other way to circulate air. We were there in August of a very hot summer. There are two large jagged squares over 1 foot in size cut into the bathroom ceiling. Apparently a repair was done months ago during the winter- to fix a frozen pipe. We know this because the piece of split copper pipe was stuffed in one of the only two glasses in the room, in the bottom of the bathroom vanity. The porch swing just outside the front door was covered with bird droppings that had apparently been there a while, one armrest had a pile several inches high. The only place to sit was a small wooden chair in a corner or a wooden bench. A picture was left leaning haphazardly against one wall, not even hung up. A package of curtain brackets was on the floor under a window. Large holes in the drapes were patched with material that was torn and frayed even worse than the holes they were intended to cover. The valve body in the shower was so loose if the handle was given a good pull it probably would have come right out of the wall. The bathroom mirror has brackets on each side of it on the wall for a non-existent towel rack, that if present would have gone right across the mirror. There was no soap or shampoo provided. There were no cups for drinking water. There was no clock or clock radio. No closet, no dressers for clothing. There was no garbage can, however one was provided when asked. There was a microwave sitting on a wooden bench. It wasn't plugged in because there was no nearby plug. It probably goes unused because there's no refrigerator in the room. The smoke detector was laying on the wooden bench next to the microwave. Smoke detectors are supposed to be ceiling mounted because the rising smoke from a fire is what activates them. The view out the bathroom window is of the back of one of the buildings, with piles of garbage behind it. They forgot to tell us lunch is included in our stay (until we got a message on the last day).
Her tomatoes are literally the best vegetables I've ever tasted. Everything is wonderful. Highly recommend you stop at the farm to pick up produce during the summer and fall months.
Great farm setting, great stay, hospitable hosts. It is rustic, but it fits perfectly with the area.
