Ask to see the doctor himself instead of an assistant. Insist that a dermatoscope be used. If they won’t use a scope, find another doctor! I saw an assistant and she missed a melanoma. She was too quick in the exam even after I told her my family has a history of malignant skin cancer, and she did not used a scope. I went to another dermatologist shortly after because I did not trust her exam and he found my melanoma.

My 82 year old mother was in the office today with an appointment at 9:45 and wasn’t called back until 10:30. She was told they were short staffed which is understandable but absolutely unacceptable for the person calling back to be snippy and cop an attitude. This isn’t the only dermatologist in Madison Co; they’re a dime a dozen about like chicken restaurants on every corner…one word N E X T. Take your time and $$$ elsewhere plenty to pick from.

Dr. Calcote is an outstanding professional & is very accommodating with a nosey patient who asks numerous questions. (Even to the point of both showing & explaining procedures!). We are more than impressed with him & the services provided for the past several years.

I have been seeing Dr. Calcote for years now - ever since he moved his practice to Huntsville. He is a knowledgeable and caring doctor. He thoroughly explains all his diagnosis, plans, and procedures. He actually spends time with each patient. That is exactly why his practice is so busy nowadays and why you may have to wait a bit to see him. His staff has always been courteous and professional - I have never had any issues with anyone there. I’m really unsure how or why he has gotten all the 1-star reviews. You don’t have to go to him. I’d like to keep him to myself!

I’ve been going to Dr. Calcote’s clinic for over a year to get treatment for a chronic skin issue that causes me pain, burning, and just all around discomfort. The NP and RN providers are wonderful, but Dr. Calcote is a terrible provider who not only lacks proficiency in his field, he also dismisses his patients. The last time I saw him, he indicated that my skin pain is mental, even tapping his head to hint that I was crazy. The treatment plan he had me on caused significant overgrowth of bacteria and a horrible smell in my skin folds. Needless to say, I’m not going back. I’ve received top quality care from my local urgent care clinic, and they don’t even specialize in dermatology! A short course of antibiotic therapy and my chronic skin issues have resolved. I’m convinced Dr. Calcote doesn’t actually care about maintaining professional medical knowledge or helping his patients. He treated me like I was annoying him. I needed care. I got it elsewhere because he wouldn’t/couldn’t provide it.

He saved my husband's life and performed procedure in office which saved us 1000s of dollars we didn't have. Don't have to wait for months to get an appointment and then don't have to wait long in the office to be seen. I don't care as much how nice the front office is, though I can say everyone has been pretty nice. Can't think of a bad experience with any of the ladies there. I care that my husband is alive and for that I can thank Dr. Calcote and his staff.

Not happy with the people who set Dr Calcote's appointments. I had scheduled an appointment and told the receptionist that I needed to talk with him about my Rosacea and I needed to have a mole removed. Well when I went in for my appointment...Dr Calcote said the appointment was not set for that and he could only see me for one or the other. I chose talking with him about the Rosacea and he is starting me on new medication and I will have to go back for the mole removal. I am not happy with the way I was scheduled because now I have to go and pay a second co pay. Very unhappy with his office staff but he is a very good Doctor.
