Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College

Most frustrating and time wasting experience of my life, i go to schedule an advising appointment and the process is so painstaking and for some reason every single employee doesn’t know what they’re doing. They refuse to tell me where to go and what to do, and when i go to the college website (where they tell me to go) nothing works. I am so incredibly lost and no matter who i ask for help, nobody knows how.

I can’t even. Administration and policies are very very poor in comparison to other community colleges in NC. Maybe it’s average for western nc? Subpar staff it’s a train wreck there, the school’s money may go mostly towards making it pretty. It’s a pretty school I’ll say that. I wouldn’t go there for an education, trade certificate or anything though. Maybe if you’re doing the college culinary program or attending the on campus high school that would be fine.

If streets were safer for alternative transportation, students wouldn't be left with only one option of driving to school!

Out of the 4 community colleges I have taken courses at, ABTech has been the worst by far. I have had the worst experience with advising/registration trying to get scheduled for the classes I want. Everyone I speak to just turns me in circles and no one seems to understand what to do in order to help me go where I need to go. They only give you 48 hours once classes start to switch them around if need be, but you need an advisor to approve before you can register for anything different, but you can’t get in to meet with an advisor till days after the deadline. I feel so defeated. I worked so hard to get the courage to return to school, just to not be able to take any courses this semester. Wasting my time and my financial aide. I would not recommend going here. 😓

I have had 1/2 bad teachers out of 11 but the other 9 teachers would do anything to help you. They really act like they love teaching and want to help you understand. Kelly Randolph is one of the best instructors there, she's approachable and helps with any questions any students have. she always has time and has a vast knowledge of the business world so she really gets the material and helps reword it so it's understandable. The atmosphere is laid back and the classmates are usually super approachable and nice to be around. I've made many friends without even trying! I would recommend AB Tech to all students.

The staff here are for the most part very friendly and easy to be around. The administration however, is terribly unorganized. It's not uncommon to get information from their website or info center, but be told the complete opposite by a faculty member or chair person. I was following a recommended schedule for the program I'm in, when it was changed completely without any notice. Half the classes I was told to take this Fall are no longer offered, and it will now take me twice as long to complete my program. Long story short- don't attend AB tech if you're pursuing a degree or diploma. I'd only recommend this place to continuing education students.

Always had good experiences here with Bailey building staff, bookstore staff, and instructors. I graduated about 8 years ago now, and going to this school was one of the best decisions in my life and set me up for the comfortable life I now have. I'm actually enrolled again to pick up some gen eds before pursuing a post-bacc degree, and the staff and everyone are just as competent and nice as I remember. Great school, and Ashevillians are lucky to have it.
