West Des Moines Public Library

The West Des Moines Library is a wonderful place to visit. The librarians are warm, friendly, and incredibly welcoming, which makes every visit enjoyable. It’s a great space to relax, study, or explore, and the selection of books is excellent. I always find something new and interesting to read. Highly recommended!

We're really impressed with and fortunate to have such a wonderful library. The collection is expansive, the staff are kind and helpful, they have wireless internet access, the children's area is great for various ages, and they rotate the main toy sets periodically. The building is beautiful and very large, providing various spaces for privacy, studying, teens, meeting spaces, rooms, etc. The library offers numerous opportunities to engage the community. Be sure to check their events calendar. There are programs for everyone--children, teens, families, book clubs and socials, tech help, and more. Sometimes they have Friday Flicks--afternoon movies with popcorn. In the summer, they have Moonlit Movies at the amphitheater across the pond. The pond is beautiful and has a fountain, a bridge, and a nice trail path that goes around the perimeter connecting to the amphitheater. There are sculptures and artwork outside along the path as well. Wonderful place to take the family for a walk, picnic, scooter, etc, and I've seen people fishing. They usually have a great 4th of July fireworks display, too. The library system has been easy to use for checking out books and letting you know when a book is coming due or when requested material is held and available. They have a huge selection of books, magazines, dvds, and online resources. You can check out several items at a time and renew for I think 3 times before returning. I really appreciate the ease of use and autorenewal.

This library is such a gem! The children’s play area is wonderful—bright, safe, and full of engaging activities that keep little ones entertained while also sparking curiosity. The adult workspaces are equally impressive, with plenty of quiet nooks, tables, and even comfortable seating that make it easy to focus. The staff are always welcoming and helpful, whether it’s guiding you to a book, helping with tech, or recommending programs. I also love how many community events and story times they host

I Love this place! It’s definitely the best public library in town. The staff is friendly and professional. There is a trail and pond, so you get beautiful landscapes outside and a nice, clean facility inside. I can drive, walk or bike there conveniently because of location and trails.

The cozy reading nooks and vibrant community events further enrich the experience, making it a haven for learning, discovery, and a true cornerstone of the community.

My autistic child attended an event at this library. It was understaffed and poorly organized. We were not communicated with in a timely manner when issues arose. We attend events throughout the metro and have never had such a poor experience. Pure ableism.

Beautiful location. Always kept very clean and the staff is very friendly. Wide selection of anything that you need. Has a beautiful lake outback that you can walk around with many sculptures.
