NC Japan Center @ Spring Hill House

Came here for the history. Theophilus Hunter is buried here, which is one of the earliest burial sites in the state. He was an early statesman of North Carolina, and owner of the enslaved. The ancestors of the people he owned, went on to do amazing things in the world and through ancestry research many connections have been made. There is a documentary about it on YouTube called " roots of Hope rediscovering John Hunter" by City of Raleigh. I am so proud that Raleigh felt the importance of this story and that resources have been put forth to host the families and continue to capture the research. Members of the white Hunter family also participated, which really made this an impactful place to visit. It takes really forward thinking people to organize this type of event. I hope more events and impactful experiences can happen here, so Dix Park can continue to heal as it confronts its history of being a slave plantation, mental hospital, and now park.

Learning about Spring Hill was very enlightening to me; my ancestors were slaves on this very property. Looking forward to gaining more insight about my legacy. #HunterFamily
