I can't recommend JCE enough! All of the teachers are amazing; very kind and knowledgeable. They are all native speakers, too. The adult classes are designed for someone who has a job, so while they go a lot slower than a college course, it's actually manageable. The teaching style is also great for retention. I've been taking classes here for several years, and I plan to continue!! As a testament to the classes efficacy (assuming that you study outside of class some), I can now read manga in Japanese and I talk to a few people online in Japanese! This is after several years of study, but that's some pretty good results, I think. Note regarding covid-19 (updated March 2024)- In-person classes have resumed, and at least for my Adult class, mask wearing has tapered off (about 30% of my class still wears masks every class), but classes are small and the school uses air purifiers. I think JCE is doing the best they can. They continue to offer individual and group lessons via zoom as well, which I think is great.
