I had a great first experience at Shampoo Ave B, East Village! I saw Lisa for a haircut & am more than satisfied with the results. The salon was clean, good vibes & busy (which is always a good sign). I’ll definitely go back for additional services.
I have been here 3x for a haircut (long layers on straight hair), and while the first 2 were good, Alexandra was the best! She has great attention to detail and was lovely to talk to. I will be booking with her again!
Please take a moment to read this to better your experience! This 1st part of the review is based on the work and detailing of my hair. The 2nd portion is based on the behavior of the stylist, Kaitlyn, with me. Firstly, I attached an inspiration picture and the way my hair turned out after a full foliyage and toning it 4 different times in the same day. No haircut, no extra treatment - only foliyage. It was extremely yellow blonde first 2 times, 3rd was too light still, 4th was a better fit. The total was $230+ with discount and $54 tip SOLEY for the way my hair turned out. I think the final product of my hair turned out good at the salon which is what the 2 stars are for. It started out good, Kaitlyn told me what was realistically possible in a day. I originally came in for a half foliyage but upon consulting she changed it to a full foliyage. I didn’t have much battery so I stayed off my phone and decided to observe instead. We didn’t talk much but we remained friendly face to face. The issue started when while bleaching my hair, her brush came veryyy close to my face and eyes so I let her know immediately. The chemicals were making me teary eyed. I have eye sensitivity due to previous injuries and wanted to be vocal about it for a change. She said "oh okay" and 5 minutes later was again bringing it close to my face so I resorted to turning my head the opposite direction to avoid problems. Her board to foil my hair was also very hard and aggressive with her technique on my head for 2+ hours. I had a migraine by the time she finished. Once it came to my bangs she COMPLETELY COVERED my line of vision. I could not see for 20+ minutes. She was essentially using my forehead as a flat surface to apply more mixture once the foil was attached to the bottom side. That in itself is ridiculous. The foil was touching my eyes and scraping my face so I let her know again. And this time she said "I can’t do anything about that until I’m done with it all" maybe she was annoyed?? I even apologized so my hair doesn’t get fried :/ She kept piling on foils that eventually covered my WHOLE face and finally at the "end" clipped them back so I could see. I laughed it off in the moment but I was highly uncomfortable!! I’ve had my hair done at this very salon months ago by Melanie and she did not cover my eyes and face so aggressively. Whilst waiting for my hair to color lift I saw her go and she started talking to Melanie (yes my first stylist) and very theatrically was telling her about me. She dramatically turned her face to the right, to the left, mimicking my concern for my eyes. Then I heard her say "What could I do, I left it" and she mimicked the foil piling on my face with her hands. They were laughing very loudly about it as well and looking over at me. It was so unprofessional, unpleasant and unnecessary. Apparently basic understanding of my simple valid request is a topic of mimicry and gossip. Then later talking with me said she gets anything coming close to the eyes can make anyone nervous (don’t know if it was satire) I will not be booking an appointment again with either stylists. I value respect and quality, unfortunately that’s not what I received.
Erik is a master stylist. He’s a great listener and very meticulous. He worked magic on my hair and I feel like a million bucks! It’s the best haircut I’ve had in years and I am so happy I found him. The salon is sleek and cozy and I had a wonderful time. I am looking forward going back to Shampoo Avenue B…
My wife had a fever over 100° and was explicitly instructed by her doctor not to come into the office because they were concerned it could be the highly contagious flu going around right now. We contacted the salon immediately to explain the situation. Despite this, the receptionist told us they would not cancel the appointment and that my wife would be charged the full price if she didn’t come in. Under no circumstances should a salon prioritize a cancellation fee over the health and safety of its clients and staff. What made this even worse was their suggestion that she should "just come in wearing a mask" and that the stylist would wear one too. That is not a solution. It is reckless, irresponsible, and puts everyone at risk. Encouraging a visibly ill client to come into a confined space is incredibly dangerous for my wife, other customers, and the employees who work there every day. Basic compassion and common sense were completely absent from this interaction. Kindness and humanity go a long way. This salon showed neither. This is absolutely no way to treat people. Period.
Best haircut I’ve ever gotten! The blowout looked amazed.. I could never replicate it, she’s a pro! Lisedn gave me exactly what I asked for, long layers without losing the length. It was appropriate price and they also had a promo for buying some new hair products as well. 10/10 recommend and will definitely go back for another cut and blowout with Lisedn!
Nico did a fantastic job with my blond balayage!!! The color blends so well, brightening my hair while keeping it looking natural, plus I think it’ll grow out really nicely. He took the time to understand what I wanted + gave great recommendations. And as an added bonus he such great energy, definitely lifted my mood!
