Recently, I went to the Blue Mercury U village location and was made to feel uncomfortable by the staff. I heard someone call her Sasha- who kept glaring at me while I was being helped by another staff member. As a person of color, the options available for my skin tone are already limited here. I can accept that to an extent since I mostly shop for candles, skincare and body care when I visit. But to be GLARED at by a white woman no matter where or what I’m doing is not acceptable. I was simply standing at the counter, waiting for the girl to finish filling my perfume samples and I looked over to see her staring at me like I’ve done something????. I’d appreciate it if they paid more attention to the conduct and training of employees so that women of color can be comfortable in the space.
I live in Olympia and we don’t have a Bluemercury here. I usually use their website to place orders. Also, It was my first time visiting a store and made an consulting appointment. The lady who helped me was very friendly and professional. I really enjoyed my mini skincare service. I purchased one of the items she recommended and she got me a free sample which is nice. My trip to Seattle was worth it. Thanks 🙂
Just what I needed Came in fairly close to store closing to pick up a new sunscreen, as my daily sunscreen had just ran out. Associate was very skilled and helpful. She greeted us when we came in even though we were dressed very casually. She didn't rush us or stand over our shoulder the whole time. She knew exactly when to check in on us and offer help and when to step back. I was very pleased by the quality of the service, and I got just what I needed. Thank you bluemercury! It's a rare occasion these days I actually experience high quality customer service. I will definitely be returning.
I walked in about a week ago, curious about product lines, when Diane approached me and suggested a facial to better know my skin needs. I've never seen myself as a 'facial person' - too rich for my blood. But she was so warm and compassionate, I came back the next week and requested her for the Modern Facial. This has been one of the best things I've done for myself - you really do get what you pay for, and I'd rather have an uplifting experience by someone knowledgeable and truly compassionate like Diane. No one is pushy or obligates you to buy the suggested products to maintain care (I only got about half the line, but we agreed it would be a good foundation for my delicate skin), and I really appreciate the customer service being oriented on satisfaction of experience instead of up-selling. I'll be back in another few months, so glad to have found these wonderful people!
Will never go here again. Very young black woman employee absolutely did not listen, basically talked to herself in long ridiculously complicated monologues. You know the type of person who intentionally speaks in the most complicated way they can, because they think it makes them sound smart? Even though they're not really saying anything, just using a lot of big marketing-speak words that companies made up? Pre-programmed robot incapable of human rapport. Yeah, the worst. Cut me off, argued with me, contradicted me on my own knowledge of my own skin, and didn't even seem to register she was losing her audience as I slowly backed away. Kept pummeling me with this totally insensible monologue all the way out the door. It honestly seemed like she was high on some kind of upper. I tried to get help from other staff who acted blasé about helping and then passed me back to her! Even though they weren't helping anyone and the store was basically empty! Save your sanity and walk over to Sephora, there's a reason they're crowded! PS, I will not be emailing you, blue mercury, you need to retrain or replace your employees based on the feedback, I am not part of your next steps.
Me and my friend went in to the Blue Mercury in the University Village recently. We are teenagers and were looking for gift ideas for our mothers. Not only were we met with disapproving stares but we felt judged the entire time. It is because of this we aborted our mission and left, present-less. We will be taking our business over to Sephora where we can be met with the respect and care we deserve. 🔜
I love the spa which is a well kept secret. The esthetician Diane Shelley gives amazing facials. She has shaped my eyebrows and I look 10 years younger thanks to her expertise. Following her product and skincare procol, I have enjoyed healthier skin. I have also recommended the Blue Mercury spa services to many family members. They loved their spa experience with Diane. She creates such a refreshing and relaxing atmosphere. She is truly an expert in her field!!!
