Nijiya Market San Mateo Store

Large Japanese grocery that is quite complete also with pre-made grab and go type sushi and over rice meal packs like onigiri, rolls, salmon, karage chicken and much much more. It's Nijoya Market on El Camino near Hwy 92 or 20th street in San Mateo. I bought a unagivl roll for $9.

11/12/2025 update: We stopped by Nijiya Market after dinner at avoid the traffic on 101. I enjoy their snacks and to-go ready food selection. My go-to tuna mayo onigiri were all gone. The only ones left were salmon, tuna and some other random ones. I did get some frozen pot stickers, chips and a noodles hot dog. This is a great Japanese supermarket. Original review: Onigiri (rice balls) were still available after 6:30pm. Score! The Nijiya Market in SF runs out of most to-go food by the time I go there after work. The items I like buying here are the Calbee vegetable chips, little katsu sandwiches, instant ramen and beef sukiyaki for nabe (hot pot.) No line at checkout.

This is a very nice supermarket. It is clean, right-sized, and has pretty much anything you need in the way of Japanese groceries, fish, obento, and vegetables, but the prices here seem a fair bit higher than the other places I go to buy Japanese groceries. However, there is one thing that I can buy here that I can’t find anywhere else at such a good price. I won’t say what it is because then everybody will buy it too. But it can be said that at least one bargain can be found at the Nijiya Market San Mateo store!

Great small, well stocked Japanese grocery with hard to find items and well prepared grab and go. I needed some panko for a recipe I am making this week and a quick dinner. There are so many tempting items, I’ll have to come back for noodles and sauces another time. I got some sushi, seaweed salad, and red bean mochi. Everything was just okay, but I never expect much from grab and go sushi at a grocery store.

Small Japanese market with a more limited product variety compared to the larger locations, but it still gets the job done. You can find the essentials, some fresh items, and a solid selection of pantry staples. Quick, convenient, and reliable when you need something without making a bigger grocery run.

Nijiya Mkt is an exceptionally good & small to medium sized grocery store. The Fish select-ions always appear very fresh as do the beef & baby-veggies!
