Suruki Supermarket

I really enjoyed my short visit to Suruki Supermarket. It’s located in the middle of the busy San Mateo shopping area, so it’s very convenient to get all your shopping done with one parking spot. They have fresh produce, good meat selections, and a wide variety of bento meals. Their natto collection is great as well. Roadside parking is available, and the customer service is excellent. I’ll definitely return to buy more natto.

Having been to countless Japanese grocers in the Bay Area and LA, Suruki still stands out as my absolute favorite source of fresh sushi fish, with especially fantastic deals on premium offerings like bluefin toro, scallops, and ikura. Everything is impeccably fresh, and the quality matches that of many high end restraunts at less than half the price. Additionally, their customer service is fantastic! Though I no longer live in the area, I still go out of my way on roadtrips to hit the equally fantastic sushi and bento bar for lunch. On my last trip, I hoped to bring some fish home only to realize I had forgotten my cooler. Everyone behind the fish counter then went above and beyond to find us a styrofoam box and ice so we could keep the fish cold for the 5 hour drive. They even sliced the sashimi and put everything on a beautiful presentation platter for no extra charge!

Wow! Wanted to make authentic Hawaiian poke bowls, found that you we're the best rated in San Mateo, accidentally came within 15 minutes of closing (didn't realize you close at 5).... Nice staff, helpful and got me an amazing piece of Hawaiian Ahi tuna, fresher than what i get at home at the store in Hawaii 🤙1000% recommend and will be back! 🙏

Late review but I went here back in April and decided to take myself out and have a me day! Everything was so fresh and exceptional! Had some nigiri and sashimi by the ocean. I will definitely be coming here again. Now I did order a lot… I didn’t finish this all by myself, but nonetheless it was still delicious and I was able to share with 2 additional people at home.

Come here to get quality seafood like black cod, yellowtail and salmon. Also grab their chirashi and otoro bowls. Appreciated this place even more after a recent Japan trip had me making more Japanese dishes at home.

ASTONISHINGLY GOOD service! I ordered fish for a handroll party. They prepared it beautifully. I misunderstood the store hours and they were kind enough to wait for me to pick up. I can't thank you enough, Suruki!

Today, I picked up a pack of salmon sashimi from the market. It tasted just as I expected, it was filling and fresh. Not bad at all for lunch. At first I thought I would need more than one packet of soy sauce, but it ended up being more than enough. They have a wide range of groceries and food items you can find with ease, especially for the size of the store. Not to mention that the employees are quite friendly. Overall, good vibes and good food, 4/5.
