Zion Church Of the City Of Baltimore

One of the oldest churches in Baltimore, and an important conduit between the German community in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area and their German culture and language. Very interesting monuments and memorials on the church grounds including one to General John Stricker and a piece of the Berlin Wall. Don't miss their once a year Christkindlmarkt, which is their biggest event of the year. On Sundays, they offer a German-language mass.

what a beautiful church! the architecture is wonderful and it was built in 1755!

It all started back in 1755 and this wonderful place was built after the original burnt in one of the great fires. German heritage caused them parishioners to face discrimination as they clawed their way up the rungs of society ladders. Forward thinking people made the great hall "religion free" so that people would feel comfortable coming there, and this was in the early 20th century. Language classes are offered on Saturday mornings. The carvings on the furniture are detailed, and lots of fine things have been donated over the years. If you desire you can even attend a service spoken in German on Sunday mornings.

What a wonderful church. Full of history and wonderful people. A must visit on a Sunday morning. The Brats and Beer events are a great time as well.

My family goes here every year to the Kristkindle Market, and usually we buy way too much holiday food to give as gifts and eat! It is a friendly fun event, in a fantastic old church. Dont hesitate, just go, you will not regret it!
