Very friendly and welcoming staff! I came here wanting to dye my black Asian hair to brown. The hair stylist was concerned about dying my hair because I have very thin hair and she didn't want to damage it. So she recommended highlights and I was so happy how it turned out!! I got so many compliments at work!

The cut and color in itself was ok. However, if you are looking for good service, do not step in here. Here’s the brief: she made me uncomfortable and disrespected me by making fun of me to other clients while speaking in languages she assumed I didn’t understand. She joked with her coworker in Vietnamese saying that the new color she gave me was ugly, while later telling me in English I looked great in it. She joked about charging me double or triple for the work she was doing, because she was annoyed by how much time the work was taking. YES VIVIAN I understood it all! And I’m Not bringing my friends there! It was a horrible experience. Here’s the long story: I chose this place because of the reviews. I wanted to support a local Asian business, and I expected they would be more experienced with Asian hair. I came in speaking English since that is what I am most comfortable speaking and I guess the woman/owner assumed I would not be able to understand her. Unfortunately, I did. I came in for a highlight and haircut. Since coloring my thick, dark, and Asian hair was taking longer than expected in picking up color, she expressed her annoyance to her other client by telling her in Cantonese that I lied about my hair, how I probably messed up with my hair at home and re-dyed it black, making the coloring process longer and delaying her other appointments. She also added that she would have to double or triple charge me for her work, which I wouldn’t mind if it was actually worth it. First of all, this doesn’t make sense. Why would I lie about my presumed messed up hair? Wouldn’t I want her to fix it by telling her what I’ve actually done instead of possibly further damaging it? I have not been to a salon since covid started, and my first experience back at Vivi was a nightmare. If I weren’t already too deep into the coloring, I would’ve stood up and left. As a hairdresser, she should’ve known and allocate the right amount of time. When her assistant, which btw was great and actually took care of me, was washing my hair she also said that the color came out ugly, when later she proceeded to compliment me on how beautiful it looked. Also, if you come for a haircut, and you have longer hair, expect to pay at least $50, that’s what she was yelling to a client on the phone, probably to make sure I heard it too. I regret not confronting her straight away, but being on the introverted side, I am sharing this here. I work in the service industry as well, so I understand frustrations and difficulties, but I also see the stark difference between at least trying to care for a client, and wishing they didn’t even bother me with their presence. Her annoyance was appalling. I still paid and tipped, but I will never come back to this place, and I hope you don’t either. This btw has nothing to do with her assistant, who was wonderful and really took care of me. (I made sure to do the same when tipping her) I attached a picture to show that I’ve actually been there. The picture was taken while she was complaining in Cantonese to her other client about my too dark and too thick hair.

Got a decent haircut, but boy, is the color of my hair so wrong, I asked for light brown highlights and a haircut. I was quoted $255+, cash only. Fine, makes sense because I have long black hair with faded red ends. I brought $300 with me. I got to the salon, showed two reference photos of LIGHT BROWN HAIR (there were a few strands with blonde highlights in the reference photos, but it was clearly a light brown hair color), and then as the hair stylist is working on my hair, I hear her tell her assistant/husband to write me down as $295 in Cantonese. Okay, a little pricey but I’ll support local Asian businesses, ya know. She washes my hair, and then I finally see all my hair. And it’s BRIGHT YELLOW. My hair is blonde at this point. I asked her to please tone it since it’s very bright and I asked for light brown; she says she can but she asked to see the reference photos again. Then she’s like "Oh I thought you just wanted to lighten your hair." Like yes, I did. But not to blonde. Then as she is putting toning product in my hair, she tells her husband/assistant to put me down as $350. At this point, I’m annoyed because this was $100 more than I was expecting to pay and I didn’t bring all that cash with me. (I brought extra just in case, but it wasn’t enough to cover $350. I ended up having to call someone to bring me extra money.) I don’t know why I was charged an extra $50 from $295, when my hair color was not the color I wanted. Again, I asked for light brown, and she gave me blonde and then wasn’t even going to fix it until I asked her too. I also felt like she was really rough with my hair. I know when your hair is wet, it’s more fragile/prone to breakage. She was tugging at my wet hair to comb it; when she was putting the bleach on my hair, she was being really rough with the brush. My overall experience is: if you want a simple haircut, feel free to come here. It’s relatively cheap ($65 for long hair) and she does a great job in that department. But if you want to change the color of your hair, maybe go somewhere else.

I have been looking for Asian hair salon for a while in local Malden area. This place is clean, and she took me on time. She was very nice and blow dried my fair so thoroughly. I have been so busy with a new born and hadn't felt good about my hair. It was such a nice treat!

Absolutely loved my haircut! The owner/hairstylist did an amazing job with my Asian hair. She was so meticulous and skilled with each and every layer. Price was very reasonable considering I had a huge amount of hair cut off. This is my new go-to salon!

I've been getting my hair cut hair for over 10 years. She's the best and knows how to cut Asian hair! I've also gotten my hair done for prom and weddings and she never disappoints and makes it look even better than I had in mind.
