Customer Reviews
UPMC Dermatology - Shadyside has a rating of 3.3 out of 5 based on over 63 reviews on Google
The staff and the doctor’s assistant I had were all very nice and helpful, but I felt rushed out the door by the doctor herself during my appointment. She is certainly knowledgeable, but when I tried to ask a general question as the exam ended, she didn’t seem interested in staying to hear it out fully. The response and body language conveyed that she just wanted to move onto the next appointment. I understand doctors are very busy, but patients can also feel vulnerable, especially in these types of settings. To feel dismissed or like an inconvenience is discouraging. Even though the staff and assistant were great, I don’t feel comfortable returning as a patient after my visit.
My appointment was scheduled for 1:15 PM. They didn't call me until 2:30 PM. I went up to the desk at 1:35 after I had pre-registered earlier in the day on my phone and clicked on the I've arrived button on my phone when I walked in at 1:15. I had thought they were running late, but what had actually happened is it hadn't shown up in their system that I pre-registered and had arrived. But after they told me they would still take me, it took another hour before I got called, because the people calling the patients names had not been told about the glitch. When I was finally called it was due to the doctor coming out and questioning if i was there, so he hadn't been told I was there either. I had to clarify to them that the system had a glitch after they had told me the reason they had called my name late was because they had to slip me in somewhere in the schedule. They were very apologetic after I told them that and they treated me with the utmost respect. I found the issue with the front desk not the actual doctor. The only reason I am not giving a 1 star review is that the doctor was great. The doctor also clarified that the system sometimes glitches and even if I pre-register, I should always go up to the front desk to let them know I was there.
On 12/01, I had an appointment at UPMC Shadyside Dermatology for ingrown toenail pain that I was unable to resolve at home despite conservative measures. I explained this to the provider and to his residents. Despite advertising that this practice treats ingrown toenails, I was told to purchase Cutemol and Dermanail attempt to trim back the toenail which I was unable to do because the nail was under the surrounding skin (this was explained to the provider). The visit with the physician lasted under two minutes, and no treatment was provided for the ingrown toenail even though I was already experiencing pain. The diagnosis in my visit notes was erythema of the medial nail fold with ingrown toenail of the great toe, yet no intervention was offered. Instead, I was charged a copay and billed through insurance for a visit that did not address the problem I came in for, and I then incurred additional unnecessary costs for recommended products. This visit provided no clinical value and did not align with the care I expected based on how this service is represented. I requested a refund of my co-pay. I filled out the UPMC survey and there was no follow-up other than an acknowledgement that it was received. Update: 12/17/25, I saw a Podiatrist who thoroughly inspected the nail and nail bed, shaved a callous down, and removed a spike of nail that had grown under the skin. Not only was the Dermatology provider not thorough in his exam, but his recommendation that I trim back the nail could have led to an infection or injury. Truly unacceptable lack of care.
angela guerrero talks you like you’re simple. you will go to this dermatology for YEARS and they will continue to keep trying the same prescription over and over with zero improvement. "do you want your acne to get better or not?" like OBV I want to be able to look in the mirror and like what i see. rude and unprofessional, do not book with this miserable woman.
Dr. Koch is a terrific doctor. Both of my children have been seen by her and were very pleased with the compassionate, comprehensive care she provided, from diagnosing the problem to considering patient input when prescribing treatment to suggesting hygiene products that would complement the treatment regimen. The office itself is very efficient. We got scheduled quickly and did not have to wait weeks for an available appointment. Upon arrival, the entire appointment took 35 minutes, including wait times. We were very pleased with our care.
Had my first appointment here, it went fairly well. The doctor seemed to know what she was talking about but was talking fast and seemed rushed. She did a swab for an infection on my biopsy site and promised to call right away with results. No one ever called, and I tried reaching the office by phone and messages. They are completely unresponsive. My results came back abnormal and I think I deserved a phone call. Finally at the end of the day a rude, annoyed sounding lady called. She told me the doctor was here all day and she sent my message. I was also told she wouldn’t be back for two more days, and I should try attempting my calls to her again then. This is a very disappointing and unprofessional practice. I doubt I will be coming back.
I have never missed a doctor's appointment in my life. I unfortunately missed this morning and when they called to reschedule I was told I'm not allowed to come back to this office. Because they scheduled an hour for extractions and missed other patients. I totally understand that. However I have never missed an appointment at this office before. And quite frankly, I'm glad they don't want me to come back because this office has got to be the rudest doctors office I've ever been to. From the front desk to the actual doctors not one of them has ever been nice to me. And I didn't even want to come back I wanted to go see another dermatologist but she moved and when I tried scheduling at that office, I unfortunately was directed to Shadyside.
