Excellent Care & Convenient Location! UConn is the absolute best. All of the doctors my family has dealt with have been top tier and the rest of the staff is also great! Thankful for the care my wife has received and Dr. Gavin in particular.
Don’t recommend GI Or Orthopedic . 1. Orthopedic left me with a dislocated shoulder for months and refused to do better service I had to go get a second opinion to find out my shoulder was dislocated beside been diagnosed with frozen shoulder. 2 GI I was receiving service for 8 years and also they neglected my health that a second doctor did the right service and found a hearnia on my stomach and had to rush get surgery. I refuse to get other services besides my primary care doctor she’s the best from this hospital.
I checked my blood pressure on the morning of 12/19/2025 and found it to be 218 over 127. I drove up to UConn Medical Center, where I had some bloodwork done. I had a minor stroke a while back, so I try to keep an eye on it. They wanted to admit me, but I had to be home to feed my mother and my cats, so I chose to go back home. After I fed my mother and my cats, I was eating when the phone rang. I answered it, and it was a Doctor from John Dempsey Medical Center (UConn). He told me that the results came back from the bloodwork tests, which showed many abnormalities. He told me to return immediately to the hospital as I was having an "acute kidney failure" that could, along with the high blood pressure, cause a major heart attack. He said I needed to be admitted as soon as possible. As soon as I finished my supper, I hopped into the car and drove back to the hospital, and signed in again. The blood pressure was up over 200 again, so I waited in the waiting room until they could find a bed. I have very bad discs in my lower back. I have passed out from the pain because of them. After more than an hour passed, my back was acting up. I had no choice but to ask when the bed would be available. I was told it would be over 3 hours. I told the lady in the ER that I could not sit up for that length of time because of my back discs. She told me that there are no beds or gurneys available in the entire hospital that I could use while I waited. She told me that if I didn't like it, I could always go home. That is what I did. If I passed out from the pain from my discs, they would have let me stay on the floor for over 3 hours until they found a bed. That is completely unacceptable and unprofessional for any medical facility. John Dempsey is supposed to be a crown jewel as far as medical facilities here in Connecticut, but I found it to be a lump of coal. Needless to write, I won't be going back again. I advise others to find a better place. Also, there was a man who actually passed out cold in front of me and hit the floor hard. Instead of concerned looks on the nurses' faces, they were smiling and giggling when they went over to help him. What kind of hospital discriminates against disabled people?
I had the best experience during my treatment with my dentist Dr. Omar Abdelatey. He explained every step clearly and carried himself with remarkable professionalism. I normally feel anxious about dental visits, yet my experience with Dr. Abdelatey changed that completely. He was comforting throughout the entire appointment and created an environment where I felt genuinely cared for. I am grateful for the level of attention and skill he provided.
My husband and I took our son in to the Yukon ER with a suspected injury due to his football game. We were already very nervous about the status of our son. After waiting a total of 3 full hours in their waiting room we were all exhausted abd nervous about our son. I inquired with the receptionist as to when they would see our son and she became annoyed with me. Only then did the other receptionist overhear and say they had a room waiting. The room was a hallway with a bed ...which we waited another hour and a half to see a doctor. The doctor was lovely and helpful. I want to make sure that this is noted because she so far was the only person to show us any compassion. I was scared about my son's injury and she was kind to me and I really needed that. She suggested we have an ultrasound done to make sure he didn't have any internal injuries. The ultrasound technician and her assistant were wonderful and kind to us. Although , she didn't see any injuries she informed me that a doctor would overlook the results and give our discharge papers. Unfortunately, we were put downstairs and had to wait yet again for about an hour and half. We were in a hallway on chairs. Our son ended up falling asleep in the bed in the hallway. When I inquired about when a doctor would overlook the results after waiting yet again I was told by another receptionist that she had no idea when a doctor would get to the results and we could just leave if we want. I was shocked by her rudeness and lack of humanity. I couldn't understand why people were being so unkind to us. We were scared about our son. I couldn't think about anything else. I just dont understand. I will never ever return to this ER.
Nearly as many one stars as five stars. Speaks volumes. I went here because it was workman’s comp, terrible idea. Should’ve went to new Britain. Not only did they charge me for the workman’s comp case, hurrr durrrrrrr, you shouldn’t have anything but my name on file since again, it’s a workman’s comp. But anyways now we have to play games with your billing since you charged my insurance anyways. Best part is the work performed sucked so bad, got two stitches that didn’t work, had to come back and get the finger glued. Took 11 hours to stitch a cut from a bandsaw. It’s been since August (it’s December now) still have no feeling in my finger. Yeah honestly, you’d be better off just keeping pressure on the wound till it’s healed than coming here. Must be all those kids who go to school here that gave this place any 5 stars 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
I am extremely disappointed with my experiences at this emergency department, especially as a sickle cell patient. Despite having a so called sickle cell clinic, the care provided shows a fundamental lack of understanding of sickle cell pain and crisis management. Wait times of 2-3 hours just to leave the waiting room are unacceptable for a condition that is widely recognized as a medical emergency when in crisis. Sickle cell pain is not "normal pain," yet it is treated as such here. Nurses showed little empathy and urgency, often minimizing symptoms rather than responding with appropriate concern and care. The existence of a sickle cell clinic feels more like a checkbox or a funding grab than a reflection of informed, compassionate treatment. If staff are not trained to recognize the severity and uniqueness of sickle cell crises, then patients are being put at serious risk. No patient in crisis should feel ignored, doubted, or dismissed. This emergency department needs significant improvement in education, responsiveness, and empathy toward sickle cell patients
