The Umstead Hotel and Spa

We always have such a wonderful time at the splendid Umstead Hotel! It is a luxurious splurge for dinner, drinks and/or staying in their beautiful rooms. We recently celebrated our anniversary there, and as always the staff was over the top friendly and efficient. Our first room had an issue with the heat, and they swiftly upgraded us to a suite and took a substantial amount off of the hotel charge for the initial room...it was above and beyond kind of them. We love having drinks and dinner in the bar area, and we always splurge on breakfast at Herons, their lovely dining room. Highly recommend!

Although I live 20 minutes away, I was excited to be at The Umstead again for a weekend board retreat. The hotel rooms are fantastic - the robe is my favorite, most comfortable robe ever - and the meeting rooms with accompanying catering have been top tier both years we’ve done this. The staff has always been kind, welcoming, and accommodating. A few stand out experiences I had this time were: requesting a refrigerator for my room after our group dinner and they brought a true mini refrigerator above and beyond my expectations (see pic); when I went to the bar downstairs one night and had to sit in the lounge instead- which turned out great because my server was Nikki and she was fantastic; the hot cider they served in the afternoons was so delicious and perfect after lunch; we had a brief fire drill or incident where the hotel had to be evacuated - that was inconvenient but the humanity I saw outside among guests and staff was beautiful especially these days. One day I’ll make it to the spa. I heard it’s divine.

STOP and look no further! If you are seeking to surprise someone special with a night, or more away, The Umstead Hotel and Spa is definitely the way to do it! Everything about this Hotel resonates style, class, and luxury. The hotel & property are inviting and as soon as you exit your vehicle, you realize you're not in Kansas anymore! The staff is next level and don't even make me tell you about the onsite restaurant, Herons... simply Deeelish! Oh, and the rooms are insanely beautiful and comfortable. Every year since my wife and I got married (5 years) I choose a 5 star hotel and spa to visit every year around her birthday in December. This year I chose Umstead and what a good choice I made! Awesome customer service, attention to detail in the rooms and Herons was amazing along with the Bar service too! In room dining was great and the customer service with in room dining took the cake! The Spa experience was top notch all the way around! My wife and I got massages and facials, and we were so relaxed afterwards! Even the turn down service was immaculate! I definitely recommend this great Hotel!

We celebrated our anniversary at the hotel and spa. The staff went above and beyond to make it feel so special and luxurious. Everyone was so friendly and attentive. The art across the hotel elevates the entire experience. Thank you!

What a wonderful surprise – this hotel is extremely well run with an emphasis on pleasing guests.|From the moment you walk in, you are greeted and acknowledged, and assisted in every possible way. What stands out most for me in this hotel is the cleanliness. This seems to be a lost art in the hospitality business – housekeeping. Although this hotel is several years old, my room was absolutely immaculate and stayed that way during the entire visit from the showers to the sinks to the bed to the bar area. Everything was immaculate. Turn down service in the evening was very nice with exceptional detail to replacing used items tidying up and making the room comfortable - I don’t see this anymore in five star hotels. Small things like cleaning glasses and leaving the cleaning cloth behind for use, replenishing, complementary water, and preparing the bed. By the way, the bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve stayed in - in many years.|I was unaware of any nice hotels in the Raleigh Durham area so it was very surprised too See this Hotel and I will certainly be back.

My husband called to book us a hotel reservation as ask about spa availability. The gentleman who took our call went over everything, and took our payment information over the phone. After not receiving any sort of confirmation or seeing any reservation charges on the card, we called back a few days later. They did not have a reservation for us. The man who took our reservation and payment information never actually booked the room. If there was an issue, he could have contacted us with the information we provided on the phone. Now the room is no longer available. Horrible first impression, horrible customer service.
