Daebak was a fun experience! The food was delicious and the portions were huge. We ended up bringing home more than half of what we were served (leftovers for a few more meals). Our server took the time to explain what to expect and about how long to grill each meat for desired results. It was very loud though. The restaurant would be even better with sound dampening panels. The servers could barely hear what people were saying.
I have come here a couple of times and really enjoyed the quality of the food and the ambiance is really nice. The only complaint I have is that the staff doesn’t check up on you. You constantly have to press the call button on your table if you need anything. That shouldn’t happen at a higher quality restaurant
Was very excited to experience something new! It was different and unique for sure. I let our waiter know that we've never been there. He offered no information that would help us enjoy the experience. It was so loud and when he did speak, I couldn't hear him. We worked our way through the meal guessing at what we were eating. The meat cooked too fast to be tender, but the taste was good. Overall, still glad for the experience, but would have enjoyed it so much more if we had an idea of how to navigate everything. I will say the amount of meat was plentiful value wise. They tack on the 20% gratuity automatically, which in my opinion, allows the service to remain subpar.
The food was overall pretty solid. The marinated short ribs were flavorful and tender and the pajeon pancakes were delicious. However, there were some cuts of meat that came out frozen and it ws tough and unseasoned/bland. The service was a bit disappointing. Even with the buzzer to call a staff member over, they weren't very attentive. We had to ask for water, they didn't take away empty plates/bottles and it took a while to get fresh, clean grill replacement tops. The food came out quick, especially the BBQ platters. The side dishes were already on the table when we sat down, which seemed odd and unhygienic. The side dishes were pretty decent but the portion sizes were small and the soup/egg was very salty. The highball cocktails were great. Overall, the food was pretty good but I felt like this place falls short compared to the more authentic places in Troy and it's only marginally better and more expensice than the AYCE KBBQ joints. They also automatically added gratuity to our bill, which was shocking considering the service we had recieved.
My recent visit to Daebak in Southfield was a truly delightful experience. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance was welcoming and the service was attentive, setting the stage for a great meal. We opted for the Daebak Combo for 4, and let me tell you, the name doesn't lie – there was an abundance of food, leaving our group thoroughly stuffed and satisfied. The stars of the combo were undoubtedly the meats but the accompanying side dishes were far from afterthoughts. We also ordered the Japchae noodles and the Yookhwe (Korean beef tartare). Overall, our experience at Daebak was fantastic. The generous portions and the quality of the food made it feel like excellent value for money. The perfectly cooked meats and the thoughtfully prepared side dishes created a truly memorable meal. I would absolutely recommend Daebak to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying Korean BBQ experience in Southfield.
Not impressed with the hygiene. We love bbq wrapped in lettuce, but my wife found a dead fly in in them! And then we realized why it had such a muddy flavor... The staff apologized and took off about $5 for the lettuce cost, but that hardly made up for the experience.🥲
Such a gem of a restaurant! We had the combo platter for 4 and it was so filling and delicious. High quality meats, beautiful flavors, and lots of little extras that we loved. Our waiter gave us great pointers and was attentive and helpful throughout the meal. Bonus points for the entire complex having so much fun stuff to see/buy, including the Korean grocery store next door.
