Small but cute restaurant. Went around 2:30 pm on a Wednesday, so it was pretty quiet. The staff were friendly and attentive. We got the raw marinated crab with the doenjang jjigae (Gejang combo), as well as the regular bibimbap. Both were generous portions, so we (two people) ended up taking home leftovers. The marinade on the crab was delicious but a little spicier than normal. The bibimbap had a lot of toppings underneath the lettuce. The doenjang jjigae had seafood in it which was also nice. Would highly recommend!
It’s my first visit. When I stepped in, I felt like i was back in S. Korea. It’s like a mom and pop shop with limited amount of tables. It got busy during lunch time. We ordered a big pot bone soup (#39) and a seafood pancake for four of us to share. It’s plenty and we had some leftovers. The soup was not very spicy and flavorful. It’s a bit too salty for my taste though. Nevertheless, It’s great for a cold day.
I had the lunch special Gimchi Jjigae soup which came with 8 banchan and a woody flavored cold tea (no ice). This place is very old school. The service was good, prompt. They also open at 10:30am which is earlier than most restaurants in the area. The soup served in a hot pot was piping hot and mostly consisted of kimchi, though there was quite a few cubes of tofu (some tucked into the bottom of the soup). It’s supposed to come with pork, but I found little if any. The tea was excellent (offered a refill once, and requested a refill towards the end of my meal). Banchan was quite good. There was one cabbage banchan without any spices or flavor but the rest of the 7 out of 8 were delicious. Rice also came with the soup which blended in well and fortified the meal. The patrons were mostly Korean and spoke Korean and seemed to be regulars but my server was quite fluent in English. The cost was $13.95 (tea included) which really was a bargain for such great food. Would reduce 0.5 star for the lack of pork but given the price, service and atmosphere, I give it a solid 5 stars. I had no trouble parking but arrived at 10:45am. Other reviewers have noted the somewhat small parking lot given the number of businesses there. Would like to try the spicy squid entree next time, a favorite of mine when I spent time in South Korea.
The food was amazing, rich and flavorful. The environment was cozy and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy good company, and really enjoy your meal. Can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend.
Authentic Korean cuisine served in a setting that reminds you of traditional small restaurants back in Korea. Remember to use newer menu photos on Google Maps as they have changed over time. There’s a cash discount.
Very authentic Korean food, I loved that they had the purple rice option. The soups were cooked in the clay pots and they let me do crack the egg into the still boiling soup. Everything was delicious, although the inside is not very big or new. I did not mind, everything was clean.
One of the other reviews mentioned they got turned away at 8:15 even though the hours say they close at 9, stating that their last call is 8. Well that's a lie, we arrived at 7:30 and were still turned away for dinner. Can't say anything about the food cause we couldn't eat but hard to have an appetite to come back when this is how customers are treated. Some others mentioned potential racism and I'd be inclined to agree, idk where the cozey/homey atmosphere people mention is, certainly did not feel like that at all. Seems like other people have luck here for lunch so we'll maybe try that in the future and I'll update this review.
