Stopped in Portsmouth and felt like having Thai food, so I tried Choppystix. The place doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the reviews were good, so I gave it a shot. The car was well diversified, the dumplings were rather gyozas; but goof. Service was fine, and the food was tasty, though nothing extraordinary. Overall, a decent option if you’re craving Thai.

The good: the food The meh: the service The service overall leaves more to be desired but the food is good enough that I’d come back. See below for more detail. We ordered the Drunken Hangover with tofu and the Soul Fire Up. Both dishes were flavorful and delicious. I would recommend a different protein for the Hangover because the tofu pieces were quite large and therefore softer and more moist than would be ideal. Plus, the interior of the tofu lacked flavor which could have been achieved with smaller, better seared pieces. The Fire Up had great flavor but would have been better with a bit more kimchi for both texture and depth of flavor. Now, the service…While there were a few tables finishing up, there was plenty of seating for us. The hostess was on the phone when we entered and, as we waited, a waitress came over and asked if we were dining in. She told us we could seat ourselves. Less than a moment later, before we were seated, the hostess was off the phone, asked if we would like a table for two and took us to a table. There was a palpable disconnect between the staff. The waitress who waited on us - the same as above - was nice enough but seemed either unsure of herself or tired or? She asked us the same types of questions repeatedly (e.g., Do you want anything other than water to drink?). It didn’t feel pushy, just forgetful. Similar interactions continued throughout the meal.

Great asian restaurant! I tried their chicken pad thai and it was some of the best I’ve had in the area. During the afternoon service is very quick but it does slow down a bit around dinner. Both times I went the wait staff were polite and had great attitudes. Ample seating considering the location and the interior is nicely decorated. I would love to see additions to their food menu, but they are great about customizing within a dish. Overall, a great new asian place in Portsmouth that is definitely worth trying out.

Just wanted to check it out since it's new, but wasn't super impressed. Small menu, overpriced, but the interior of the place was cool and the staff were very kind. Don't try the chicken with ginger rice, it was unseasoned chicken with the skin on it, pretty unappetizing and bland. The rice noodle dish was better and more flavourful, but it is still unlikely that I would come back :/

My wife and I absolutely love Choppystix. We have been 4-5 times since they opened and the food has been absolutely stellar. Service was a bit slow at first, but has become much better in our last few visits. I rave about them the next day every time and my coworkers can attest to that. I can’t recommend them enough.

Authentic, Delicious, and Worth Every Penny! I ordered the Hanoi Bone-In Pho, and it was fantastic! The portion size and the quality of ingredients in the bowl made it worth every penny. The broth had just the right balance of flavor rich, comforting, and deeply satisfying. Next, I tried the Ginger Rice Chicken (Kao Man Gai). The dipping sauce was spot-on, and the rice was cooked perfectly, not too dry, not too mushy. The chicken was tender and flavorful. It’s clear they take pride in making everything from scratch. I also ordered the Chicken wings with Mala another great choice! It tasted homemade, and you can tell because e chicken wasn’t overly salty like many places that use pre-made wings from wholesale suppliers. The Chicken Satay with peanut sauce was delicious too. The sauce paired so well with the tender chicken — it reminded me of the street food I had back home in Thailand. The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff were super friendly, constantly checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend Choppy Stix for anyone craving authentic, street food-style Thai and Asian dishes!
