Tanaka Sushi

I’m perpetually nervous when it comes to trying "new" sushi restaurants, but I’m beyond delighted we gave Tanaka Sushi a try. This is truly top-tier sushi. Some of the best we’ve had in a longggg time. The prices are reasonable, the fish is excellent, and the rice isn’t an inch thick (which I really appreciate). The food feels thoughtful and comforting, like the kind of Japanese cooking that’s made quietly, with intuition and care. Not flashy, just genuinely delicious and made with love. Thank you for an incredible lunch!! We will be back and we’re bringing the whole family

Wow, hidden gem! Chipotle style Japanese/Korean street food. Just order, no tipping, sit in or carry out. Good selection.

Stop by here after a stroll at the Morton Arboretum on a hot day! It’s a self-service small casual place with good quality food. No tipping required is awesome 👍😄We ordered Tanaka Box that came with fresh big sashimi and nigiri, the spicy tuna roll had a real kick which I love. The Volcano roll is baked and is done well. Bibimbap was on point, too. I would stop by again next time we come to the arboretum.

This place is great. The prices are extremely reasonable and the staff is friendly. The food is also very good. I always get something different and I'm always pleased with the taste of the food. Update: I wrote this 8 years ago. Tons of restaurants fail, Tanaka is still around. The food is still excellent and I think this is some of the best Korean and Japanese food around.

This is a hidden gem. Every dish was prepared super hot and delicious. The sushi was fresh and paired with excellent drizzle of dressing! The restaurant is very clean. Decor and setting is very simple, but food is excellent! You order your dishes at the front counter. They'll call your number when your dishes are ready, so pretty much self-service.

bought sushi from this restaurant, and the sushi itself was decent. However, the young woman at the front register is consistently unfriendly and comes across as rude. It feels uncomfortable, especially since she seems more polite to non-Korean customers than to those who appear Korean. I’ve heard similar feedback from others, which unfortunately makes me hesitant to return.

Food is nice. Sushi portion is BIG with thick cut and reasonably priced. Glad I found this hidden gem.
