Wow—just wow! That was our reaction the moment we arrived for dinner at this stunning spot. From the moment we stepped into the yard, we were blown away by the view. Watching the sunset from the gardens was absolutely magical, and the setting itself is just as charming—lush, peaceful, and full of history. It’s a registered historic place, and now I truly wish we had booked our stay at the hotel here! We were part of a large dinner group of 30 and had a private room for the evening. The experience couldn’t have been more perfect. I cannot say enough about the incredible wait staff—Jesus and another gentleman took such attentive care of us, anticipating every need with genuine warmth and professionalism. And the food? Check out the photos I posted—it tasted every bit as amazing as it looks. The entire evening was unforgettable. Between the beautiful venue, the exceptional service, and the incredible food, this is an absolute must when visiting Tucson!
This used to be a great restaurant with exquisite food, stellar service and an inspired wine list. Sadly, the grill at hacienda del sol has become horrid. Take the French onion soup. It is not French, not onion and not a soup. It is a thin beef broth served in a white shallow pasta plate, with a few undercooked onions, and a sad piece of toast floating, lost in the reality that this $18 abomination tastes like a bullion cube flavored with a few sprigs of alfalfa sprouts. Our waiter broke a martini glass on the table, and casually picked up the pieces. He spilled so much wine with every glass he poured that the table looked like a crime scene. A medium rare steak was blue. The ravioli was burnt, which is hard to do and we sent it back. The oysters were too salty to eat and smelled like the kelp washed up on a beach because, in fact, there was a glob of real beach kelp on the plate. The kind that you could step on and they pop, only lacking the little flies that swarm over the flotsam. The appetizer oysters took an hour to be served and as a result we were comped for them. The piano player was delightful. The room is elegant. The service marginal. The menu looks good but the reality is that the food is not in concordance with the descriptions. The wine list is demented. There is a better selection of wine at gas stations. Tucson has a lot of great restaurants. The grill at hacienda del sol is not among them.
Definitely a high end restaurant that is also comfortable and not too fussy. Live music and a great bar, and a terrific staff. Everything we had was excellent, I could have had a whole plate of the Cajun shrimp tempura, part of their shrimp appetizer and the lamb shank was incredible. The only thing I would change is the lighting, it’s a little too bright in the room we ate in, add some golden indirect light and wow. Thanks for a great evening.
Everything about this place was excellent. The ambiance, the food, the music, and the overall atmosphere made for a truly enjoyable evening. But what really exceeded expectations was the customer service and the bread. The staff was incredibly kind, professional, and genuinely service-oriented. You could tell they cared about the experience, not just the table. It made the whole experience feel effortless and welcoming. And the bread… wow. They serve two types: a sourdough from a local, award-winning bakery, and a homemade sweet bread. Both were outstanding. I honestly couldn’t stop eating them—each one was memorable in its own way and set the tone for the entire meal. An exceptional experience from start to finish. Highly recommended.
I ordered a simple scrambled eggs with cheese and advocado which wasn’t on the menu but I was accommodated nonetheless. My Freind ordered the biscuit and gravy, which she said was the best she’s ever had. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the presentation was beautiful. From the time we were greeted at the door by a wonderful gentlemen, to our waitress who was very attentive, to the food which was presented beautifully and tasted even better. I can’t say enough about the staff here and food. We had a great time. I highly recommend eating here. Their evening entertainment and food is also worth the experience.
I should have read the more recent reviews before booking this restaurant for my wedding anniversary, I would likely have gone elsewhere. I guess something must have happened at this restaurant if they still have a 4.5 overall rating when most of the recent reviews have been quite negative. I'll add my less than ideal experience to the mix. While the service and servers were friendly, the pace was wayyyy tooooo sloowww. Not sure if it's a matter of training or maybe a kitchen problem. but when you can't seem to even catch someone's eye to fill your empty water glass or bring your bill, that's a problem at a place that charges over $50 for pretty routine entrees. The $32 charcuterie board was...fine. The $52 halibut dish was ... ok. The equally expensive salmon was ...also fine. The incredible view was worth a bit of a premium, just not that much. There was a problem with our bill as well, and still not sure if that's going to get sorted out or if I will be forced to call them or my credit card company to resolve. Overall, pretty disappointing. A place like this should do better. Much better.
We had a lovely experience here. The food was amazing!! The staff was super nice. The overall ambience was great. A special Thank you to the manager Jaime Diaz who went out of his way to make us feel special. Truly a lovely place to visit.
