Ivy Tech Community College South Bend-Elkhart

I guess they stay in business cause they're kind of the only came in town for a tech school. I already have a degree from another institution but was looking to bolster skills/training/certification in a related field. Called multiple times to this campus and could never reach a human. Left multiple messages and never received a call back. Tried other campuses in the state and received incorrect information about where specific programs are offered. Had already attempted to find the information on the website but it is a very user unfriendly site. Eventually decided to drive down to the campus here in South Bend to try to sort things out. Person at the admissions desk had absolutely no idea about anything I asked. Very basic questions could not be answered about my previous degree applying, what it would take to get the certifications, where I could get the information. No answers. An instructor in one of the fields I was interested in came into the office when I was there so I was told to talk to him. He seemed almost alarmed at my questions. So much so that I even wanted to ask him if he was OK. I truly thought something was wrong with him. I was asking basic questions about the field so I can only assume perhaps he has some sort of social anxiety or other issue. I'm not making fun, I do understand, but I wasn't able to get any useful information because of his awkward and strange behavior. When I asked about finding the information on the website he said he had no idea anything about the website and couldn't direct me. Another Instructor came by and I asked a few more questions. Apparently I sounded knowledgeable enough because he told me I should apply to be an instructor there because they're always looking for instructors! So my trip to Ivy Tech was as useless as my unanswered phone calls. It's a business. I would think they would want to present themselves in a professional manner to run their business but, as I said, they may be able to run in such dysfunctional way because there's not competition. Very disappointing because I was really hoping I could find what I needed there.

M**** at registration is not very helpful. If you need assistance, information, or scheduling, just do it yourself because the most that desk does is transfer you to a voicemail without letting you know what to expect or next steps for receiving help/scheduling with an advisor. They asked me to hold without explanation before I ended up stuck leaving someone else a voicemail. I called back asking for clarification on how to navigate fall registration and got hung up on. Basically, you’ll just have to be proactive and don’t expect much help if you aren’t able to show up in person for it. If you have any questions, just don’t because they act confused and condescending when you ask them anything. Snarky and hardly of any service. I’m sure I’ll unfortunately need to call back as well if nobody follows up on this. All it takes is a little empathetic and clear communication to help. That shouldn’t be an unreasonable expectation

I was ready to enroll in a specific certification program for the summer and got set up to speak with an advisor. She never called me. When I informed them that I never received a called, she apologized, asked when I would be available for a new call, and then I just never got a response back to that at all. I was literally ready to enroll and give this college my money and they still can’t even find a competent person to give someone a call, which is the admissions office entire job. I ended up going with a different school because of this, and I highly recommend you do the same.

That person at the front desk is VERY, VERY rude. They made me not even want to come in and sign up for classes. Please do better with kinder welcomes.

I have had the best experience here at Ivy Tech. I can count on staff & faculty to support me when needed, and to host the best events at the college. Let’s not forget to mention the good food that gets me through my classes. It’s reasonable price food and gets the job done.

Great looking campus with everything in one main structure. Lots of nice areas to study and just hang. Looking forward to the journey.

I would give no stars if I could. I had to withdraw due to a diagnosis medically that required me to relocate. I was about a week late from the withdrawal period and I was told to do a late withdrawal request. I completed this and they stated that I didn’t withdraw in the time period that I had even though I wasn’t diagnosed until after the drop period. What is the point of having late withdrawal requests when it wasn’t approved. I got good grades, but I attended this college and did not have any other issues so there was no reason that I can see that they would’ve declined this as this was for a medical only reason. This college states that they are student focused and for the students, but they are not, nor do they represent the community in a positive way. In my instance house again, I medically needed a drop. Clearly all they want is to collect their money as I have to continue to pay for the class that I dropped. They are not person, centered or student focused, and the administration should feel shameful. Do not go to this college.
