I live down the street from BoxUnion, and for so long I was nervous to take a class. I took my first class in July 2025 and haven't looked back since. The signature class is a great cardio workout, and I also work in a box + lift class to help add some resistance training. I first took a class with Lo, and after that first class signed up for a membership. I have lived on the Westside now for more than 14 years. A group fitness junkie and a former part-time spin instructor, I hold good instructors in a very high regard. Lo instructs, challenges, and motivates at the highest level. Lo fosters community, and I am really grateful to be part of it. She is by far one of the best instructors I have ever taken. If you are thinking about trying BoxUnion, just do it!
Was in the area for two weeks and this boxing studio is exactly what I needed to start the day. Very welcoming front desk . Jan coached the class so energetically while also making sure everyone’s form was good. Such a great class!
I was really looking forward to trying BoxUnion Santa Monica, but unfortunately my experience with the front desk representative, Ruby, left a negative impression before I even arrived. I called ahead because I was having trouble finding parking and wanted to know what my options were. Ruby answered the phone and was noticeably short, impatient, and dismissive. She told me there was only street parking or a nearby paid public lot. I thanked her, but before I could ask anything else, she hung up on me. I immediately called back to address what felt like unnecessary rudeness. She then told me she hung up because she was drinking water. Later, she texted from the work phone saying she had been eating something. The conflicting explanations made the interaction feel unprofessional and insincere. When I arrived, another staff member helped me and was incredibly kind and professional, and the instructor for the class was great as well. Unfortunately, the initial experience had already set a negative tone for my visit. First impressions matter, especially when you're trying to welcome new members and this one was disappointing enough that I’ve decided not to return for future classes. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, because the rest of the team seemed wonderful. But no customer should be treated the way I was treated at the front desk.
Excellent energy throughout. Great music and was motivating without making you feel bad if you missed a rep. Just the right amount considering it was my first class ever. Will absolutely do the class again.
I loved this class (Box and Lift with Matthew Day). You can tell Matthew is not only super great at what he does, but he cares about his students health and wellness. The class was perfect and he ended it in the sweetest way: with us sharing what we want to focus on for the next year. I will be taking this class with Matthew again!
I highly recommend BoxUnion! My first time trying boxing, and I loved it! Chelsea Martin is a great human being born to coach and motivate people! I came 10 minutes before the class started, and she gave me the rundown and demonstrated the elemental punches. Next thing you know, the room is full of highly motivated people, bomb A** music, and I started to move my body quickly, throwing punches left and right. I'm a total boxing newbie, but I could still follow along and get a great sweat. You start by throwing punches without the gloves and then with them. There is also some floor work, abs, and total body movements. The last part is all you, baby, throwing punches and leaving everything behind. The facility is very organized and neat, and there are cubbies with locks on them, clean bathrooms, showers, towels, etc. You can rent or buy their hand wraps and boxing gloves. If it's your first time, you will get them for free. You can also bring your own! Parking -If you come to an early morning class, at 6 AM or 7 AM, you can find parking on the street by the meters, and you don't have to put coins in since it's free before 8 AM. This area gets bust, so if you come later, you will have to park in one of the lots nearby' there are plenty of lots in the area as this area is high tourist.
Amazing studio with the right kind of energy to get you pumped up for boxing. There’s one room filled with punching bags where classes are held all day. Ample amount of spacing inside the studio so you have enough space to work out. There are plenty of lockers in the lobby to keep personal items. The whole studio is sparkling clean, which is awesome cause you sweat within the first 5 minutes of a class. Street parking favors early risers. But there is plenty of parking within a block vicinity. Employees at the front desk are super nice and welcome you in with excellent energy. Totally worth checking out! Really good place to bring a friend to work out together.
