Hey so, I'm not sure if John Muir ever read their reviews, but hey I'm Eli, and I used to be a student here. It is a blast to be here and you know, it was actually fun to go here. I didn't even realize it until that one foggy day at the field. So I was accepted at a school called Preuss (You should/Shouldn't check it out). But I shouldn't bring Preuss into this, what I was trying to say was this school (with good friends, if they knew who I was referring to), can make your school life easier. *sighs* And I really missed being here, if only..... So this school is good because through kinder-5th grade, you get teached Spanish class. So that is my REVIEW. 🙂🙃🫠😔

Amazing teachers!! We absolutely love being apart of the John Muir community. My two kids 8yrs & 6yrs have excelled in learning Spanish. The Spanish immersion curriculum is excellent and is the same curriculum used at Longfellow! The school construction will be done next year. The new building is beautiful and the kids love learning in the new classrooms. The school is still in the process of phasing in the Spanish immersion program and continues to add a new grade each year. It’s a wonderful community of parents, students, staff and teachers. I would highly recommend applying to this Spanish Immersion program through the school choice application on the San Diego Unified website! It is free, all you have to do is apply!

We've been at Muir for a few years now and really like it a lot. Mostly it is because of the solid families. Good people who care about their kids. The school is very small and everyone watches out for everyone - really feels like a family. Excellent academics and great after school programs. Tops scores all around! The one bad review I see on this page is odd because there is no Miss Tommasino at our school and no one has ever heard of this parent. Something is weird about his review.

Oof, it's been hard to know what's going on with our kids at school. Updates are minimal. Photos are minimal. There's no syllabus or weekly updates on what they're learning in class. I always have to ask the teacher for the schedule. Had no idea they had PE, where they are handed off to a coach and their main teacher is not present. Asked once to get an insight on what they're learning weekly in Social Emotional class; after a few back and forth of requests, finally got a month's worth of what topic our kids are learning about. Homework is often given w/no context. When asked, not very useful advice on how to help our student read, esp since we do not even know what letter/sound they're even being taught in school that week. People are just told to read along w/their children and they'll learn how to read that way, and that's simply not going to work. You have to teach them phonetics! and this year, for some reason, no Room Parent so no idea what the heck is going on (had no idea when they do testings, no idea that their headphones weren't really working well, had no idea they receive awards quarterly) and no help from the school or their Parent Association to create community or connect w/other parents. The PTA is mostly concerned w/fundraising and less welcoming fresh new incoming parents, for whom this is their first time sending their child here. I def expected a warmer welcome from those people on JMAP, esp since 2 of them have kids in my student's class. Pick up is stale and dry. Everybody stands by themselves looking forward and not many interact, so it's been hard to connect with them. New principal is great this year so hopefully, she stays for a long time, and things will look a lot better in the future but so far 23/24 school year deserves just 3 stars from me.

My son has been attending Muir since 1st grade. He will be an 8th grader this year. The teachers for the most part have been phenomenal. Small classes and wonderful learning environment. The Muir Community can not be beat. Muir is our "village" and our children are all well taken care of.

I initially found John Muir School in 1996 when I was looking for 6th grade at elementary level and not Junior High (not available in our district any longer) for my oldest son. I liked the small class size, the camaraderie of the staff and the proximity to my office. My son was very successful at John Muir. When my second child was ready for school I thought that she would attend one of the new schools in our neighborhood (City Heights) that had just been built. Registration numbers (38 in a class) sent me running back to John Muir. My daughter is now in the 9th grade and is loving the high school transition, my youngest son is promoting from 5th grade this year and will also continue on at John Muir. The "family feel" is like no other campus in our district. The small class size, global citizenship, Paideia philosophy of teaching, the longevity of the staff and the bonds formed between teachers and students is remarkable. Success begins at home...and continues at our 2nd home, John Muir School...come on by and see for yourselves. I look forward to meeting you on a tour.

John Muir is a great school for families who want a small school setting. My daughters are in 4th and 7th grade, and we like that they attend the same school, yet they each have very different schedules. My 7th grader has 5 different teachers and she moves from class to class. My 4th grader has 1 teacher, but enjoys the FANTASTIC Archery program that Muir offers after school and on weekends! We are also very pleased about their PRIMETIME program (after school program) and the friendly staff at Primetime!
