I couldn't be happier with our experience at Chinese School! The teachers are incredibly dedicated, knowledgeable, and patient. They create a warm and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable practicing and learning. Ms Cassandra, the principal, is amazing! Every Saturday she leads a morning assembly that also engages families in the language and culture. Our daughters have been attending the school for three years and love it. They not only improved their Mandarin skills significantly but also developed a genuine interest in Chinese culture and traditions. I highly recommend the school for anyone serious about learning Chinese!

I highly recommend the Chinese School of San Diego for anyone interested in learning Cantonese. It is currently the only institution in the area offering weekend adult classes, making it an invaluable resource for me. My experience in the program has been excellent. The classes strike a wonderful balance between structured classroom instruction and personalized learning, allowing students to focus on topics that interest them most while still following a clear curriculum. The adult-oriented environment fosters independence and practical application -- for example, students are encouraged to visit nearby 99 Ranch Market, where we practice conversational Cantonese by ordering food, asking questions, and identifying everyday grocery items in a real-world setting. The instructors are knowledgeable and supportive, and the weekend schedule makes consistent attendance very manageable. If you're looking to learn Cantonese in a flexible, engaging, and practical way, this school is an outstanding choice.

This is the fourth year that my child has been enrolled in the Cantonese program at the school. We appreciate that there is a Chinese School that still teaches Cantonese. It is a language that is becoming endangered, and it is important for the younger generation to be able to continue speaking it with one another and with their family. This is an amazing program with lots of interesting curriculum and fun activities for younger children. My child has made a close community of friends here who she will hopefully know for the rest of her life! I highly recommend the school if you're interested in learning, Cantonese or Mandarin

Our daughter has been part of the Chinese School of San Diego Mandarin program for the past two years, and it’s been such a meaningful journey for our family. The teachers and staff don’t just teach language — they bring Chinese culture to life. From calligraphy and festivals 🧧 to songs, stories, and traditions, our daughter is learning how language and culture are deeply connected. She comes home excited to share new words, celebrate holidays in authentic ways, and proudly explain the meaning behind traditions. Watching her grow in both confidence and cultural awareness has been incredible. We are so grateful to the Chinese School of San Diego for creating such a warm, supportive, and enriching environment. This school isn’t just about learning Mandarin — it’s about giving children the gift of understanding and celebrating Chinese heritage.

This is the third year that our daughters attend the Chinese School and we continue to be impressed with the school. Our daughters have learned so much, they are both writing and reading in Mandarin! As parents we feel very welcomed. Ms. Cassandra does an excellent job of communicating with families on weekly basis. She knows every student and parent and always makes sure to connect with us.

Our kids attended CSSD last year, and we had a genuinely positive experience. Under the current principal’s leadership; there’s a clear sense of care, organization, and commitment to both language instruction and cultural enrichment. The teachers were patient and engaging, and our children not only improved their Mandarin skills but also gained a deeper appreciation for Chinese traditions. Every weekend class started with an assembly (parents welcome!) that focused on an aspect of Chinese culture, and that helped guide the lessons for the week. The curriculum was thoughtfully designed, and communication with the staff was always respectful and responsive. The school is welcoming, well-run, and focused on student growth. Highly recommend CSSD to any family looking for a meaningful and well-supported Chinese language education in San Diego!

Worked with CCSD on a spring beach cleanup. Our teens are not affiliated with the school, but we were welcomed and given clear directions and supplies. We learned a lot in 90 minutes of working alongside this school. They clearly care about their community, and the entire greater San Diego area and its residents. I was very impressed with their kindness and acceptance. If you are looking for a Chinese school, they would be worthy of your consideration.
