English Language Center at BYU

When I first heard about BYU-ELC, I thought it would be the best English center, especially since it is connected to BYU Provo. However, my experience there was disappointing, and I feel like I wasted my time. While I appreciate some professors who genuinely cared about students’ progress, the admissions office and main administration were unhelpful and lacked proper communication. As an institution affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I expected them to uphold the values of kindness, respect, and integrity, but unfortunately, that was not reflected in their interactions—especially when communicating with parents or guardians. As a lifelong member of the Church, I was shocked to feel more unwelcome at an LDS school than at private institutions. My family had always planned to attend BYU Provo or BYU-Idaho, but after this experience, we have decided to look into public universities instead. I strongly urge BYU-ELC to review its policies and improve its administration to better reflect the Church’s mission and valueà

The English education is great. My English level increased thanks to ELC, but I’m sorry that I have some complains. Teachers ignore students’ behavior like teasing, making noises in class, and talking during. I have hearing problems, so I didn’t want my classmates to make unnecessary noises, but I couldn’t say anything because I didn’t want to interrupt class…. I ended up getting headaches because some students started to tease me… If teachers can be more careful about this, I would give 5 stars.

Program, teachers, facilities and overall excellent environment. Love my experience there and how much I Iearned and grew as a second language learner and person. The best of all was the tuition very affordable for this kind of intensive english program. Totally recommended!
