Community colleges have historically served as gateways to opportunity, workforce development, and economic mobility. However, in Oklahoma and across the United States, higher education systems are increasingly struggling to adapt to the realities of modern students — particularly working adults seeking entry into essential healthcare professions. Institutions like Oklahoma City Community College and Rose State College provide valuable educational pathways, especially in clinical fields such as respiratory therapy and nursing. Yet the rigidity of some program structures raises broader concerns about accessibility and workforce readiness. When clinical training requirements are scheduled in ways that assume students can pause full-time employment, many capable and motivated individuals are effectively excluded from entering high-demand healthcare careers. This issue is especially significant in Oklahoma, a state that has long ranked near the bottom nationally in education outcomes and workforce development metrics. At a time when healthcare systems face staffing shortages and communities need skilled professionals, program structures that lack flexibility may unintentionally limit the very workforce they are meant to build. Across the country, some institutions have begun experimenting with hybrid and online learning models that coordinate clinical placements in collaboration with local hospitals while accommodating the schedules of working students. Nursing education, in particular, has demonstrated that clinical training can be coordinated in more flexible ways through partnerships, simulation integration, and adaptive scheduling. These models show that maintaining academic rigor and accreditation standards does not necessarily require inflexible program design. Adaptability is becoming one of the most important qualities in education. Students today are often balancing careers, financial responsibilities, and family obligations while pursuing training in essential professions. When educational institutions cannot evolve alongside these realities, they risk becoming disconnected from both workforce needs and the communities they serve. The question facing community colleges is not whether clinical training is necessary — it absolutely is — but whether program delivery models can evolve to reflect modern workforce conditions. If education systems are meant to prepare people for the future, they must also be willing to change with it.

I love OCCC it’s a great starter school! Just a great school in general! The staff is so nice they make sure your experience is amazing! If you need help with anything they got you! As a first time college student they made it easier on me! I needed directions they did not hesitate to help!

It is a beautiful campus. Lots of signs to point you in the right direction. Friendly people to help, I think a few people were enrolling everything was moving as it should. Super Community College. Check it out.

I thought the admissions process was fine, and the cost fair. Paid about $425 for a course that I assumed would be closer to $650, so that was a pleasant surprise.

I guess OCCC Financial Aid is and I quote "Not there to help people, its not their JOB!" Just WOW! They offer no assistance, knowledge, answers, or anything really. It’s kind of ironic since its suppose to be a "pursuit of knowledge learning" environment but when the staff "can’t problem solve or search anything" what do they expect the youth to learn! Another complete failed "learning" institution. UNBELIEVABLE wake up call on the culture now. A homeless youth & student comes in and has no where to go because they have been kicked out of their parents home and the school says " oh well its not our job to connect the student with services, support students, or offer any local solutions because "its not their job." It is totally insulting and a total disrespect to anyone trying to better themselves. When the staff are completely useless then what can the institution expect to turn out legitimately?? Is this treatment because this youth is not a "minority" or do they treat everyone this abysmal?? Can anyone explain their horrible experience? UNBELIEVABLE- dont waste anytime or money on this idiotic so called "college", obviously the staff are not there, and I quote, "to help students with issues nor can they find anyone to help them because its. not. their. Job!" That statement should tell you all you need to know about OCCC! OCCC is not there to help anyone despite their wealth of "contact" and administrative offices!! DISTURBING & DISGUSTING! OU is much better at advancing the pursuit of knowledge and "Helping their students!" Don’t bother with OCCC it is a waste of all efforts and they are not there to help youth at all!!! And I quote again "Its not there job to connect youth with help, services, or anything else!" OCCC couldn’t care less about youth if they tried any harder! Just read all the other financial aid reviews! I even called the Vice President’s office and just as useless as the Financial Aid!! Warning** DONT GO TO THIS SCHOOL especially if you are planning on using FINANCIAL AID!! Attached is the photo of how they DO NOT DO THEIR JOB! It has been updated twice but they "REFUSE" to acknowledge it!! This is what YOU get to look forward to.

This is where I got my first associate degree. All the professors are nice and friendly. I love the beautiful and peaceful campus! Some classes are harder than the others. But they have many online classes now, which are convenient for working students
