If you're in the military, Central Texas College is the easiest and cheapest way to earn an associate degree. Most classes don't even require you to purchase textbooks, you just show up to class and do the assignments to the best of your ability. It's a foolproof way to earn a diploma!
I do not recommend this place for studying. They don't respond to emails or phone calls. When you schedule a meeting with them to get information, they inexplicably ask you to fill out some unclear forms to obtain information about you, even though you don't even know yet if you want to study there! Incompetent and lazy people work there who are not interested in attracting new students.
I’m writing to share an unfortunate and deeply disappointing experience I had while trying to enroll for summer classes after graduating high school. What should have been an exciting step forward turned into an upsetting and humiliating event that still weighs on me. While waiting in line with a friend to speak with someone in the Academic advising area, we were approached by a staff member whose tone and attitude were unnecessarily harsh and unprofessional. She spoke to everyone in line in a very dismissive, condescending way. Perhaps she was having a difficult day, but as a representative of an educational institution, her behavior was completely inappropriate and disappointing. My friend and I exchanged a quiet comment about her tone, and to our shock, she suddenly confronted us stepping extremely close, mocking us loudly in front of the entire line, and making us feel small and humiliated. She even went so far as to threaten us for speaking up. We were left stunned and afraid to respond because we thought we might be thrown out or denied the chance to enroll that day. People see to do whatever they want when they want around there. She wanted to pick a fight but we both agreed to not give it to her, she wouldn’t dare pick on someone her own size/age. I went home and told my parents, and we submitted a formal complaint to the college. Unfortunately, we never received a response or any acknowledgment of the situation. That lack of follow-through only added to the feeling that our concerns were not taken seriously. This experience left a lasting impression and changed the way I viewed the institution. I tried not to let it define my college journey, but the memory still lingers. No student especially one just beginning their higher education should ever be treated this way. I would encourage others to look into schools that reflect their values, uphold professionalism, and treat students with the respect they deserve. I late returned just to take one class and the LAB TA was awful she was a student herself at liberty University, she was rude and not helpful during Covid 2021. I went and spoke with the dean she did not care or give any empathy to students. She was more of a well if other people can figure it out and I figured it out so can you. She passively dismissed me, however the professor for the lecture was phenomenal. I dropped the course and came to terms that this is not the insinuation for me. If you are wanting to be a nurse and don’t have a strong foundation in science (although that what the courses are there for) then save your dream and attend a different school. Dreams can die here. They got theirs and are not here to help you.
Organismal Biology degree. Chemistry and Biology teachers are all amazing and truly love their fields. I took the non-science classes online, so I can't really judge, aside from the fact that the classes online are still pretty good. Veteran's Affairs staff are nice, as are the Admissions and Financial Aid staff. Actually, the staff as a whole are incredibly helpful and professional, the only issue I had was because I didn't realize my financial aid wasn't enough and got dropped from a class, but even then that was my mistake and not their fault. If only this was a four year, I'd love to spend more time here!
CTC is located at the corner of Clear Creek and Hwy 190 at the edge of Killeen. They get students from all over the US. I had nothing but wonderful teachers there in the Medical Lab Tech program. They have a planetarium as well as a duck foundation. You can grill and sit at picnic tables also where the ducks are. Great picture area also. They have a nice upgraded bookstore. There are also dorns and family housing available.
How many times does my Blackboard need to get reset cause my password won't save? Every time I login. How many times have I shown up to the Admissions Office just for them to "close" for no reason during normal business hours? A lot. How many times have I needed to know important dates like course drop or withdrawal deadlines only for them to always say "that was last Friday"? Every semester. How many times I needed a counselor to walk me through my academic plan but they're unavailable? Several times. How many times do I get a hostile attitude from Pamela in Registration when asking for information? Always. Does calling them ever work? No. Does Blackboard work? Only on my personal devices sometimes; never on the school's. Does Eagle Self Service work? I get an error saying I can't login. Is setting up FAFSA or other financial aid an easy process? Depends on if they file your paperwork correctly. Want to use your VA or GI Bill benefits? Let me get back to you on that one. Need tax documentation for filing last years taxes? Forgot to make that year available for you on ESS. Want to take a fun class like Film Appreciation? Sorry there's a 20 page wait list. See you in a few years. Want to pursue an interesting class because it sounds nice? Sorry but you must be an Active duty, reservist, or veteran of the military to access this class. (Always empty by semester start; never opens to the public) Paid and registered for a class but can't find it on start day? Lmao that class was canned due to lack of students but I'm not going to notify you when that happens free money. Can't register for classes remotely because you're stuck on academic probation and need to register for classes? Sorry you need a counselor to register for you, but we don't have one available they're on vacation. Buckle up you're gonna be here for a while. Need to register for classes while on academic probation but need the last up to date transcript to do so? Wait like 2 months after the end of last semester and we'll get back to you. Want a study environment with like minded people and adults? Most of the students are early college high school students.
VA department is horrible. Even though you have guaranteed money to the VA with your post 911 Bill they will find a way to mess it up. Registered for classes they didn't hold my classes waiting for the VA confirmation I wasn't able to take the classes I wanted to put on a wait list or absolutely horrible and I'm a returning student from the previous semester. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME GO TO TEMPLE!
