We live right across from the Maple Street school and let me tell you they are the worst neighbors ever, Kalamazoo started fining people for having paper in there yards well the school never closes there dumpster lids and I continually pick up homework, food bags like chip bags, and other stuff. And then when you complain about the whistles because they let anyone practice on their field they continue to blow there whistles even if you have ptsd, and the principle said he would pray for me, nice what happened to separation of church and state. Our house will celebrate being here 100 years in 2 years I bet the school can't say that, it's not just a day this goes on for months if you want to practice here leave your whistle at home and tell like my coaches used to do, ours didnt interfere with our neighbors tho Kalamazoo is beginning to Suck.

We moved here 4 years ago and have had a wonderful experience every year. We’ve had great teachers every year In both elementary and middle school. They work hard to diversify instruction to meet each students’ needs. The access to advanced curriculum and programs is much more than our previous district. Our kids are growing and flourishing here. This school district is highly recommended! Not to mention the amazing gift of the Kalamazoo Promise upon graduation!

If you have a child with significant cognitive impairment, do your best to use School of Choice to keep your children away from KPS. Send them to Portage (#17 in the state in terms of quality...KPS is at the bottom of both the state and the nation). That way, if they need to go to Woods Edge, you don't have to deal with the special education director trying to tell you no. My son and I have been through 7 school districts, 11 IEP meetings. And this place is BY FAR the worst. We came from a school district that did not have funding to provide textbooks for its children, but they understood that SpEd children deserve a future. KPS does not. They consider a transfer of a child to Woods Edge as a failure (they are trying to look good while doing nothing). My son's teacher has lied to me, lied to others, smirked as I cried. This has been the most horrible educational experience we have ever had. And I'm hoping that Mrs Saunders will do her job and send my son where he belongs, before I end up suing this district, and a couple of people personally. Because this did not have to happen. A culturally insensitive woman (Mrs. B the "caseworker") looked at what she thought was a Black single mother, and told me that my requests were not necessary. Because she saw herself as the be all and end all. And saw me as having no brain, because I'm just impoverished and the wrong color. If you can help it, avoid sending your special needs kids here. Don't let these people lie to you, find advocates who know what the laws actually state. Otherwise these people will socially promote your children into failure. 89% of black students in their school district are illiterate. Stay away. Stay away. Stay away.

The receptionists Olea & Ashley are great, friendly and helpful. KPS could not be better represented at the front desk for visitors.
