Ms. Guffey is an exceptional Korean teacher who brings patience, understanding, and encouragement to every class. As an older student who learns at a slower pace, I’ve deeply appreciated how she meets me exactly where I am. She has taught me to believe in myself and to trust in the knowledge I already have, which has greatly increased both my confidence and my ability to communicate in Korean. Her lessons go far beyond language—she weaves in Korean culture, traditions, and even our class’s shared love of K-pop to make learning engaging and fun. Every session feels meaningful, and her passion for teaching shines through in everything she does. Thanks to Ms. Guffey’s support, my Korean skills and confidence continue to grow. She is a wonderful teacher, and I look forward to continuing my Korean education with her as my guide.

I am currently enrolled in Korean classes here. I have learned so much and am profoundly grateful for this opportunity. I must express my deepest appreciation for the exceptional teaching of 정미정 선생님 (Mrs. Michelle!). She is indeed the most exceptional teacher ever! Her patience with us is unparalleled. Her teaching abilities are truly outstanding, too. She truly takes her time to teach us and ensures we comprehend. I would really like to continue my Korean language education at this center and with her. 🥹🙏

I would like to thank the Houston Education Center for everything they have done for me and my friends. I started a year ago and it has been an amazing journey for me. Director Chunglan Park has done such an amazing job not only for the center, but for the students and teachers. She always find ways to better the center and what fun activities to do for the students/teachers. She makes time for the people around her and also takes the time from her busy schedule to help out any students who has questions. She pushes me to do better with my korean (in a very good way). She’s one of the reasons why I will be going to Korea the beginning of next year. 너무 너무 감사합니다 원장님!!!!!! - 진 나경 🙂

I began attending HKEC in Spring of 2018 and am going into the Spring 2020 level 6 class, so I have been attending classes for over two years now. I must say, if you are serious about learning Korean in a relaxed yet effective environment with other adults, look no further. The teachers here are amazing. I myself am a certified teacher, and the curriculum is diverse and fast-paced, which I love so much. Not only do they teach how to communicate in Korean, but there are also fun side-classes where we'll all go make mandu, or learn tal-chum, or do calligraphy, so you can actually experience Korean history and culture in these classes, too! There's also a cooking class that I never had the time to personally attend, but my friends have made some wonderful dishes there and looks quite fun! My ultimate goal was to be able to speak with my in-laws, and as of right now, I'd say I understand 75-85% of what they say, with the margin of unknown lying in either dialect or esoteric vocabulary/adages. If you have married into a Korean family and want to know what they're saying during the family get-togethers, this class is perfect for you. On a personal level, I love attending these classes- they help me exercise my brain and socialize more, which goes a long way for my mental health. I cannot tout this center enough, and I hope you enjoy making new friends and memories while immersed in the richness of Korean culture, too!
