The Happy Persimmon

Highly recommend visiting this sweet store! Owners were friendly and very welcoming. Afterwards, swing by the ice cream place around the corner (something with wings in the name)

Such a nice little shop! The decor is so cozy, they offer a small but very nice selection of goods and most are impossible to find in Boone. The prices are not as low as a big box store but it is locally owned so if I'm looking for just one or two things that I can't find anywhere else I am happy to pay a little extra for them. The selections ranges from frozen dinners, microwave noodles, snacks and desserts, and also hard to find ingredients along with various self serve dried teas. The lady at the counter was super nice, I really hope this place survives and is able to grow enough to offer more products!

Ilya and Kim put so much care and dedication into The Happy Persimmon, and it’s evident in the cozy space they’ve curated. It feels like going to visit a good friend! 🙂 I love the selection of products they offer, and they always are bringing in new requests from customers. It’s so nice to have their store in Boone!

Moving to NC from NJ as a Fil-Am was hard for me because I'm so use to driving 5 minutes to a Chinese grocery store to pick up my usual things. That's no longer the case after visiting Happy Persimmon. I was expecting mostly Korean and Japanese things but was surprised to see my usual Lumpia wrappers, oyster sauce, fish sauce and Viet chili sauce all in stock. I was even surprised to see Filipino mixes like Mamasita Adobo mix and ube jam! I will no longer have to by the more expensive domestic version of these ingredients at Walmart. Some suggestions: the three headed elephant jasmine rice, Datu Puti cane vinegar/soy sauce combo, banana ketchup, milk fish (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE) Maramang Salamat 💕🇵🇭

Wonderful that Happy Persimmon came to Boone, as locals can find some great ingredients, frozen dishes, and snacks without traveling to Greensboro or Charlotte! Found some excellent shiitake and chicken gyoza, tonkatsu sauce, gochujang paste, and tteokbokki (pictured was my attempt with the products from the store). Very impressed with the selection! Staff were courteous, helpful, friendly, and very open to new items on their bulletin board. A very welcoming atmosphere and I will be visiting weekly as well as recommending it to everyone I know in the high country! ほんとありがとございました！

Adorable little speciality Asian market next to the Speckled Trout. The bulk spices, including gochugaru, Sichuan peppercorns, and hondaishi, are great for newcomers to cooking Asian cuisines.

Love being able to get high quality Asian ingredients to use at home. Much better selection than any grocery store "international" secrion
