We moved here from another, poorer, district where our child was in special ed. We felt seen and supported and believe that our child got what he needed in the district we left. It wasn’t a lot, but it was right. we had a completely different experience in Beaverton, a wealthy district by comparison. It seemed like their number one priority was to downplay our child’s needs and minimize expenses for the district. They took months to do the assessment; scheduled the Required meeting for the last afternoon of the last day they could still be in compliance with the law. The meeting was supposed to have seven people talking together about what our child needed, but they scheduled only one hour and then arrived 25 minutes late, signaling to us that this was not a legitimate process. They brought a few interventions to the meeting, choosing to ignore two significant issues our child needs help with. And it was apparent that they didn’t bring their ideas for the group to discuss, they brought them as a done deal. They were unwilling to reconsider any of the choices they made in a private meeting, which did not include anyone who actually knew our child. They delayed scheduling the meeting for so long Our child moved on to his next school without ever having received any services at his first school! When our child moved to his next school, it was immediately apparent that there had been a lot of gossiping among school and special ed staff, which created a very unwelcoming experience at the new school. (We experienced a lot of pettiness.) Our experience is that the district special ed staff’s priority is Keeping the district from Providing resources or paying for any services, Followed closely by showing families who is in charge. Not sure Helping our student succeed is on the list.

Fir grove elementary principal Erin Miles believes she is untouchable. Smirks and smiles after hurting a special education child. She slammed my sons are in the door "accidentally" after knowing he would get upset, because the previous day he should've been told he was suspended. The principal decided the next morning he was suspended, not the day of. When asking if she really even wanted him here, she went silent. And that's all the answer one needs. She really believes I would bring my children back to that school. When contacting Beaverton school district they have not returned any phone calls regarding this incident.

Allow racism, false CPS reports, allow staff to retaliate against parents, won’t include parents in their child’s education and accused behavior, everything is fill out this form but you never hear an update that the situation has been mentioned to the parties involved, further training, or reprimanding staff who do wrong repeatedly. Everything is swept under the rug. Your concerns are directed back to the very people your reporting it’s crazy.

Our four children have gone through Beaverton Schools and have had an excellent education. They received the care and attention each needed for success. This included 2 IEP's, a 504, and TAG services.Yes, we as parents needed to advocate for their individual needs sometimes, but that is a parent's job. Three of our children are now successful college graduates, and the fourth earns his college diploma next year. Thank you, BSD!

Total and utter incompetence in planning for a return to school during COVID. Air purifiers are not allowed in the classrooms per district policy as "they will make the classroom appear to be unsafe." What the heck? How about taking the step to protect our children versus trying to protect your image? A Covid outbreak would also be bad PR. The air conditioning doesn't function in the majority of at least a part of the school buildings, and windows often cannot be opened. Temperatures were at an unacceptable level in classrooms and the lack of ventilation is a huge danger with Covid. Other districts updated their HVAC systems to make their schools safer. Beaverton did not. Lunches were delayed and the elementary children had only minutes to eat before being told to pack up and go. Unacceptable. You had a year and a half to work on the logistics of a safer return to school. What were administrators doing the whole time?! Twiddling your thumbs and patting yourselves on the back for shoving the hard work off onto the teachers and making them and the children pay for your shortcomings? Bravo. Our children and teachers deserve better.

**I'm giving four stars simply because I found that BSD has made it quick and easy for me to upload documents on behalf of my student that is new to the district. This solved my problem as a working parent who discovered all BSD locations are closed on Fridays during the summer. I have yet to interact with anyone from BSD, so this review is subject to change.

The School system is mediocre. I'm in one of the top schools in this district and it is still terrible. I am not complaining becuase of the desire to want something better than already have. My school is terrible, our program is fake and teachers don't actually understand the program. It's better in the UK. But I was unlucky to have parents who made bad decisions to move here for the 'trees' instead of the education and my future. Okay, this district is completely rotten. If you don't mind not having things that the best school district has, then it's not completely terrible. It still considers the students, but to a certain degree.
