Matson & Co. Hair Salon

This locally owned salon provides upscale services with a relaxed vibe. Jeff Matson, a co-owner with his wife Nada, has been cutting my hair longer than I can remember, predating even his own salon. His ability to give me a high-quality, consistent haircut is something I’ve had trouble finding elsewhere. Combining his skills as both stylist and a barber (two different skills is mastered) has always given me the results I’m looking for whether it’s longer, shorter, or somewhere in between. The rest of the staff is always personable and easy to talk to in this laid-back shop. The place is clean and well lit. Located in the Victoria Court shopping center across State Street from the Granada theater. Ample parking can be found in the lot behind the shopping center off of Chapala Street.

Jeff has been cutting my hair for 15+ years and I was so excited when I found out he and Nada were opening their own salon. He always listens to what I'm looking for in a cut and/or color and then either executes that idea perfectly, or steers me towards something similar that will work better for me. Most recently he has done a balayage on my hair and I am ecstatic! It's been a month and a half since he first colored it and I am still getting compliments on the cut and color from friends and coworkers. The new salon is lovely: the location is convenient and the space is clean and minimalist without being clinical or uncomfortable. I would refer anyone looking for a great cut, color & salon experience to Matson & Co!

I've lived in LA and NYC where you'll find some of the best hairdressers and colorists on earth. Jeff is not only their rival in haircutting talent and quality, his color is out of this world too. I literally have people ask me every other day where I get my cut & color. Matson & Co is my secret.

I discovered Victoria McHone (one of the stylists and colorists now at Matson & Co) through a friend who had amazing hair color. I went for hair color, and ALSO discovered Victoria is the first hair stylist I've ever had that really took the time (and has the skill!!) to cut my curly/wavy and generally moody hair. I send all my friends to Victoria. She's also just a rad person and 10000% enjoyable to chat with (or not if that's not your thing at the hair salon, she gets it.)

I hesitate to write a review given it can be difficult to get an appointment with Jeff, unless you are good at planning ahead, which I am not. The wait is a testament to the quality of haircut and overall service. He’s also worth the 4-8 week wait. An overall great guy, always good conversation, pays attention to all aspects of the experience, from customers need for caffeine to music being played…and then he pays even more attention to your hair, meticulous in detail and consistently great at what he does. It’s always a pleasure to get my haircut! I have only see Jeff, but I have family members who get their hair done by the other stylists at the salon and they also rave about their experience. Side note - the google pic identifying me for the review was from a few years prior to me getting haircuts with Jeff😂.

I love this hair salon! Especially my stylist Victoria who has been doing my hair since I moved to Santa Barbara 14years ago (Gasp!) She is kind, knowledgeable, skilled and cares about her clients. I’m always happy with her service and have enjoyed our conversations over the years. I can’t recommend her enough 💗
