If you are looking for a new hair stylist, look no further than Maria Bernard. I have been a client for oh-so-many years and have been thoroughly satisfied--actually delighted!--with everything she has done. Cut, color, gloss--you name it, she is great at it. Because she takes the time, and really cares that her clients are happy. She is fun to be around and very gifted. I would give her more stars if I could!

I have recently seen Maria for a new hair cut and color and I can easily say I am leaving the salon with so much satisfaction and will be for sure coming back. She was very accommodating and let me know how to benefit my hair in the future.

Akimi Gallery is a lovely oasis in Union Square and easily accessible. I have been a grateful client of Maria Bernard's for over 10 years. She is creative and so skillful, responsive to my needs and whims. I regularly get compliments on my haircuts and styling, which require no fuss! Best of all, Maria is full of heart, and will become a treasured friend. She and the Akimi family create a welcoming and relaxing experience every time.

Dear May, we’re truly sorry that your recent visit left you feeling disappointed-that was not our intention, and we regret that the situation unfolded the way it did. Unfortunately, we experienced a sudden plumbing emergency during your appointment. A major pipe clogged and began flooding both our kitchen and waiting area. Our top priority was to prevent damage to the floors below and ensure the safety of everyone in the salon, which required us to shut off the water immediately. We did our best to communicate clearly and respectfully. At the time both Yuki and I apologized for the situation and offered alternative solutions to finish rinsing your hair at the shampoo bowl. We used a small, completely clean trash can to catch the runoff water and prevent it from going down the shampoo bowl. While it wasn’t ideal, it was the best option available to us under the circumstances. This was an unprecedented incident for us, and we understand how frustrating it must’ve been. Our salon has been opened for over two decades, and we always aim to provide excellent services in a calm and pleasant environment. I have been a regular client with Yuki at Akimi Salon for over ten years. A water clog-up on the floor at Akimi yesterday created an unpleasant environment for me. I was the last client waiting for Yuki to shampoo and condition my hair after coloring. When Maria discovered a water clog-up on the floor, Carolyn ordered not to turn on the water at the shampoo bowl. They asked me to shampoo in the restroom sink, but I didn’t want it because I wouldn’t want to hurt my neck by bending down to put my head in the small sink. Since I was the last client needing to use the shampoo bowl, I feel that they could have accommodated me by turning on the water for a little while so I could shampoo and condition. Instead, they used a trash can to hold the water to shampoo and condition my hair. I felt so uncomfortable and unhygienic which detracted me from the overall salon experience. What a bad customer service!
