I found Kate Black via Instagram and was immediately drawn in by the incredible color work and range of alternative, fun haircuts. Both my husband and I go to Kate now and receive endless compliments on our hair. Kate is very thorough with making sure we are on the same page with every step of the color/cut process and makes the experience enjoyable and comfortable. My husband and I both have textured hair in different directions (wavy and curly) and Kate is phenomenal at cutting/styling to work with the texture so no matter how you choose to style you look your best. Kate’s care for the craft extends beyond the service itself and into the overall experience. 10/10, 5 stars, A+, whatever scale you use Kate’s off the charts 🖤

To fully understand the life-changing haircut I received, I have to first give a brief backstory as to how we got here. I was raised by two beautiful woman that did not have much hair of their own in my lifetime, but took very good care of mine. I lost one in 2020, and the other in 2021, and that very next day I went into my bathroom and gave myself a FAB with kitchen shears. Ever since, I’ve been growing my hair out and only cutting an inch and a half or so off the bottom whenever I felt it needed it. Before the FAB of 2021, I had never had a good experience at a salon in the sense that the cut, color, style, there was always something that was off, and I would have to go home and fix it to my liking, usually near the face framing pieces because of a god-awful cowlick. My hair had finally gotten to the point that it was tickling my lower back and I was thinking something was crawling on me and that’s when I knew it was time. I had enough hair too put my faith into someone, but I had to find the right person. This past summer, we moved to Salem and would check out downtown on the weekends. I made note of the different salons to check out at home, and there’s definitely a lot of talent in Salem, but I kept coming back to Moon Baby. Not only was the website inviting, so easy to navigate & view everything, but I was greeted by photos of long, gorgeously colored locks. I don’t think there was an extension insight. And that’s how I knew I was going to be coming to the right place. They care about the integrity of their clients hair and not just making a profit and it shows in their artistry. That’s enough about the beautiful salon though, let’s get on to this amazing stylist. I don’t know if it’s the way the light was hitting the crown, but it looked like Del had a halo over her head and I knew it had to be a sign. Even though I know I am awkward and weird, I did not *feel* like that for a second. Very quickly, I started to let my mask drop. I cannot stress enough that this is the only time as a neurodivergent person that I have felt safe, comfortable, happy, and most importantly WANTED in someone’s chair. I’ve been told sometimes I talk in puzzles, but this expert took my inspo pics & word vomit and made magic. From giving me enough time to gage where the bad energy in my hair that needed to go was, to handing me the comb instantly when I asked to part it how I usually do — THEN REPLICATING THAT EXACT PART OVER AND OVER🙂‍↕️ I left with less hair than I initially planned to, and for the first time, it’s because that’s what *I* wanted. I cried the whole car ride home with happy tears, telling my girls how much I loved my new hair and that I hoped they did too. I don’t know how long I will be staying in Salem, but I absolutely will be making the drive back for appts or any time Del needs a canvas ❤️

When I first moved to Salem I was looking for an all over bleach blonde specialist (iykyk!) and Christine went above and beyond my expectations! Fast forward 7 years later… I have played with different cuts, fashion colors, lowlights, shadow roots, bangs, growing my layers out, etc and even going from brunette back to blonde! Christine has been there every step of the way, keeping my hair healthy and happy the entire time. She is a hair witch! Always knowing what is going to suit me and make me feel beautiful. She makes my hair dreams come to life!

I had a wonderful experience here with Nicole, will definitely come back. The scheduling is great at Moon Baby and I felt very listened to by Nicole with my vision for my hair and she communicated well with me. She helped me learn how to style my hair curly and she gave me a haircut that I feel really fits me as a person which I'm so happy about, she is really gifted at shag haircuts.

Sara Jane has been cutting my hair for several years now. She is incredibly talented, creative and empathetic. I absolutely love the way my hair looks, and have never felt more comfortable with a hair stylist. She really gets me and how I want my hair to look. As a vegan, I love that Sara researches the products used in the salon to ensure that they are both cruelty-free and vegan. I have several autoimmune conditions and am still very COVID cautious. I really appreciate that when you book your appointment you can request that staff cutting and washing your hair wear masks. Moon Baby's quality is on par with high-end salons on Newbury Street without the snobby vibe and commute into Boston.

Lindsay was absolutely the best haircut I’ve had in such a long time. She Listened to what I requested and then crafted it in a way better than I could’ve imagined. She is a real gem in the sweetest so happy to have found her. I instantly Felt at ease and in good hands

Kate is the best and always takes care of me. I walk into Moon Baby feeling meh and walk out feeling gorgeous. She is so great at her job and you can tell she loves doing it. The salon itself is of course beautiful, calming, and very clean.
