A Lifesaver and a Blonde Colorist Extraordinaire! I cannot say enough about Samantha at Personal Image Salon in East Lansing. She is truly a blonde colorist extraordinaire, an absolute magician with hair! I came in as an MSU mom in a pinch, stressed and in desperate need of a refresh, and Samantha turned it into one of the best salon experiences of my life. She took my hair from tired and dull to bright, dimensional, and radiant. The way she understands tone, depth, and what flatters your face is pure artistry. I walked out feeling like myself again—but even better. And a special shoutout to Charles, the owner, who made sure I was taken care of immediately. His kindness and professionalism set the tone for the whole experience. If you’re looking for a salon where you’ll be treated like family and leave looking spectacular, this is the place. Samantha is the go-to for blondes, and Charles has created a salon that feels like a hidden gem right here in East Lansing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars isn’t enough!

I've just loved everyone I've worked with at Personal Image. They are all independent practitioners, very skilled, and seriously interested in customer satisfaction. The shop has a satisfaction guaranteed policy on their products. It's a wonderful place to get taken care of.

My stylist, Charles, recommended Siera for facials and then added dermaplane to his recommendation. I took his advice and am so glad I did! Siera is wonderful! She listened to what my goals are and gave me great suggestions. I left with a silky smooth face and much relaxed shoulders, neck and hands! Thank you Siera! 😘

Love going to April Killewald for hair care!! Have followed her for many years and locations. She is awesome cutting and coloring my hair and giving me advice on hair care. She is the best and i recommend her highly for her skills and thoughtfulness.

I've been going to Personal Image Salon & Spa forever and highly recommend this gem of a place. Charles, the owner, is exceptionally talented at everything and I'm always grateful to him for making my hair look and feel great. He's also a very caring person and an inspiring local business owner. Everyone else I've seen here -- including Leslie for massage and Siera for facials and makeup -- has also been outstanding. The culture here is one of attentiveness to your individual needs.

I would not recommend Hayleigh Q or the customer service of the salon. Please see the images attached to this review. I included the reference photo that I showed her, I can definitely understand not receiving exactly what the reference photo shows, but this outcome is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, this appointment was on a Friday and that Monday I started a new job. I was in so much shock I paid in full and tipped like I always do.. I completely regret it. I attempted to reconcile this service by contacting Hayleigh and she was so unprofessional and rude. So I called the salon with calmness and respect asking to speak to the owner - at that point I didn't even want my money back I just wanted him to know what kind of service i received and he could hopefully connect me with another Stylist. The way he handled that was telling Hayleigh I called and telling her to text me.. I was appalled and will never go back.

I am so extremely disappointed in Personal Image, as a dedicated customer years ago, I am saddened by how I was treated and wonder if Charles has changed over the years, because this isn't how I remember him as a salon owner. That said, this review hurts my heart to write. I have a personal rule, to only leave positive reviews. However, some instances require a negative one to be left, and Personal Image deserves a negative review. Unfortunately, my review is longer than the character limit allows. However, it is VERY valid and needs to be shared/read. Once character limit is exceeded, I will share images of the remaining review. My mom, sister, and I were longtime customers of Personal Image years ago, before relocating. In fact, my sister and I still have a wooden brush from Personal Image... mine comes with bite marks from our puppy in 1999. That's how old this wooden paddle brush is and was SO looking forward to returning to Personal Image with my brush so I could solve the mystery and hoped Judy or Charles could tell me the brand. My family relocated out of state, and I moved to Southeast Michigan. As winter is approaching, I need to get my nails ready for the cold weather to prevent cracked fingers. I called the only place I knew. My nail tech from years ago has recently passed and the other nail tech has moved out of state. But I trusted Personal Image. I'm sure Judy would find me a top-notch nail tech. I called during my work break, and Judy worked to get me a standing appointment with a nail tech. A receptionist (not Judy) later called because the said nail tech wanted to know if I could come in earlier. I said "Yes, but I'm concerned. I need a full set of acrylic nails, and I never heard back to see if could accommodate me." This receptionist found me a place with Heather Lloyd. She even found me a standing appointment, so I could get a full set and then a fill every two weeks. I was so excited, been prepping my nails, and couldn't wait. Unfortunately, I had a dental emergency. As I have relocated from Southeast Michigan, I had to drive 198 miles, 3+ hours to get to my dentist. It took a while to get my mouth completely numb (four shots, not just two!) and then the dentist completed my procedure. The entire time I thought "Oh! I can make it back to East Lansing by 5 p.m. I cannot wait to get my nails done." Because it took a while for the shots to take effect, I was there longer than had expected. As soon as I got in the car, with a droopy face and numb mouth, I called Personal Image and got a young girl. I explained the story (while in pain) and asked if I could come at 5:30, or would it throw off Heather's schedule. She said I couldn't. I said "Okay, let me disconnect with you, check GPS and will call you right back to see what my ETA would be." She explained that it wouldn't be her, but she would fill in the alternate receptionist. Within two minutes, I called back and got Zye. I told her my ETA was putting me at 5:38, so I asked if Heather had any cancellations for Friday. That I could come at any time. She said no, but she would go talk to Heather. I said "okay, well if she can't, I can just come on the 18 and get a full set then." A few seconds later, I received a voicemail that said, "Hi this is Personal Image Salon. I was just calling because I talked to Heather the nail tech and she just said um since you didn't come in today, she will be cancelling the two-week fills. Just because there is nothing to fill um since you didn't come in today. And she said she would like it if you just scheduled for either the same day since most likely that's what's going to happen since their schedules are pretty busy or if you'd like to schedule for a day in advance where you're not going the same day, you'd have to put down a deposit just because you did cancel without ever being a customer two times so that would just make her feel more comfortable ummm give a call back if you're interested, if not have a great day."
